MVLA Parent Rocket News 24-25
Principal - Anita Martos
July 12, 2024
9 days to go.....
Updates on those all important questions!
1. School supplies - The official list from the District is posted below! We will provide anything else your kiddo might need.
2. Bell schedule - if you have looked at the bell schedule on our website, please look again. It has been updated. It looks very traditional, but in reality, it's anything but.
3. Busses - This year, students will meet at community stops which may include your student's home school. You should be able to log into parent vue and see your student(s) bus information. We now have that information at the school as well if you cannot access parent vue.
4. Which House?? Students will spin into their Houses on the first day of school.
5. Meetcha Teacha!!! We have set up a day for our NEW ROCKETS to come meet the staff. There are two different times to accommodate people's needs. If you are able to come during the day on July 18th, we will be here 2:40 - 3:55. Those who need to come after work can come see us from 6:15 - 7:00.
Student Handbook
Please see our Student handbook here: https://5il.co/2ptxn
It has important information about school expectations and policies. You can also access it anytime on our website mvla.lcps.net. To access it, click Menu, Documents and then Parent Resources.
School Starts July 22 for ALL Students
Parent Drop off and Pick Up
PLEASE NOTE: Our school hours are 8:55 - 3:55 this year. Yes that is an additional hour and yes, that will cause some big changes to our schedule. More about that will come out in our next issue.
However, our pick up and drop off procedures remain the same.
In the morning, we will open the gates at 8am but will only have a few staff on duty at that time. Please do not to drop off students prior to that time.
In the afternoons, while our end time is 3:55, we ask that you do not all come right at dismissal.
Please use staggered drop off and pick up times below starting July 22th:
Ideally Morning drop off would be from 8:30 to 8:55 and pick up in the afternoon from 3:00 - 3:20.
In the afternoon, if you are able, please follow the times indicated below. If you last name starts with:
A-G - Please come right at 3:55
G-N - Come at 4:05
O-Z - Pick up at 4:15
To avoid causing a backup to Lohman, please pull as far up in the lane next to the building as possible.
Please see the attached map for more guidance.

Nutrition Services
If your child requires a special diet for any reason, please contact the school nurse Mrs. Rivas. You can call 527-6059 and ask for her and she will help set that up.
Also, please DO NOT have food delivered to campus. If you must bring food on occasion because your student has a special diet and forgot their lunch, that is fine, but please do NOT send deliveries, door dash, etc.
Cell Phone Policies
MVLA has a no cell phone policy. Students should put their phones in their backpack at the beginning of the day and should not have them out or on their person during the school day.
If your child does not feel well, please tell them they need to see the nurse and she will contact you if they need to be picked up. Students should not be calling or texting parents during the day unless it is from the office with an adult present.
Finally, IT'S HOT
Once the monsoons hit, please make sure you are getting notifications from the school and/or district about when we are in shelter in place for lightning.
