Message from Mrs. Rigby, Copperview Principal
Dear Copperview Families,
We hope you had a safe and happy Thanksgiving. At Copperview this past November, we focused on gratitude. We are so grateful for our amazing students that show up either in-person or virtually and work hard each and every day. We are equally grateful for our students’ families who support, encourage and advocate for their children. Of course, we are grateful to our Copperview teachers and staff that have dedicated extra hours and planning to keep our school safe, and engaged in learning! Lastly, we are thankful to our community partners, these behind-the-scenes organizations and individuals that have donated hundreds of school supplies, masks, clothing, thermometers, winter coats and more! We could not do it without any of you! We know this year has brought many challenges and uncertainties and we are continually impressed by the resiliency of our community and the ways in which we have come together. Thank you for being a part of our journey.

Frequently Asked Questions: COVID-19
How do you define “exposed”?
Exposed is defined as: Tracking up to 2 days prior, being within 6 feet of a person for more than 15 consecutive minutes.
If my child has COVID-19 symptoms, what should I do? It is recommended that you take your child to get tested for COVID-19 to see if they are positive to care for them and also to see if you need to quarantine yourself and other household members. Reach out to our school administration or school nurse if your child has COVID-19 symptoms and you are going to get them tested. Find COVID-19 testing locations at coronavirus.utah.gov.
If someone in my household tests positive, how long is my quarantine if I cannot isolate myself from my family member?
Mandatory 14 day quarantine starts the day after the last date of exposure. So, if you cannot isolate yourself from the family member, your first day of quarantine will start after their 10 day isolation is over AND if you are in contact with another household member who gets sick, your quarantine starts over. The CDC released the following information on this: *Any time a new household member tests positive with COVID-19 and you had close contact, you will need to restart your quarantine. This also applies to being exposed again during quarantine by anyone in close contact.
What if students, teachers, or employees are exposed to COVID-19 again (a new exposure) within 90 days of testing positive for COVID-19?
Students, teachers, or employees who do not have symptoms of COVID-19 do not need to quarantine and may go to school or work. They do not need to be tested again for COVID-19. They should also follow these guidelines for 14 days from the date of their last exposure:
- Take his or her temperature before school or work. Check for symptoms of COVID-19 every day.
- Wear a face covering at school and when around people they don’t live with.
- If the student, teacher, or employee gets sick or has symptoms of COVID-19, he or she should isolate for at least 10 days after symptom onset and call a doctor or healthcare provider to determine if he or she should get tested for COVID-19 again. Even if the student, teacher, or employee tests negative for COVID-19, he or she needs to finish the 14-day quarantine.
And if students, teachers, or employees are exposed to COVID-19 again (a new exposure) and it has been more than 90 days since they tested positive for COVID-19:
Students, teachers, or employees should quarantine. If they get sick or have symptoms while on quarantine, they should isolate right away, call a doctor or healthcare provider, and get tested for COVID-19 again. Students, teachers, and employees who are in this situation may meet the criteria to end quarantine.
If a teacher tests positive does the whole class have to go into quarantine?
No. This will also be up to the SLCoHD in how they go about deciding who was considered exposed. They will be following the within 6 feet and for 15 consecutive minute rule and then as a result of the teacher’s positive test, they will be required to isolate at least 10 days AND have no symptoms for 24 hours without medication prior to returning to work.
