TELPAS window opens on February 20, 2023

Once students return after the holiday break, we have approximately 30 days of instruction to ensure they are ready for TELPAS.

REMINDER: TELPAS REDESIGN 2022-2023

Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) reading and writing domains will be combined into two online tests for students in grades 2-12 this year.

Reading/Writing assessment

Listening/Speaking assessment

Only K-1st grade will continue to be holistically rated in all four language domains -listening, speaking, reading, and writing. (No changes to TELPAS K-1 domains)

TELPAS--Increase Student use of Academic Language

• Consistent use of sentences (frames & academic language word walls)
• Formal writing vs. social writing
• Provide feedback on spoken responses
• Opportunities for choral reading
• Teach students to move back and forth from academic to social and reverse
• Explicit, dynamic & repetitive vocabulary instruction
• QSSSA-Question, Stem, Signal, Share, Assess (Seidlitz, Perryman)
• Diverse Texts & Imagery
• Use of graphic organizers to respond. Ex: Summitk12 graphic organizer
