Elementary Update

It's hard to believe its been a full month of face to face learning. Our preschoolers are loving coming to school and socializing with their friends. They especially enjoy playing outside on the playground. Our staff has been able to implement a lot of fun and exciting small group experiences within their classrooms. Halloween was a bit different, we missed our big parade. Our teachers did an outstanding job of making up for it in their classes with amazing projects. We are still able to add students to our GSRP programs, which is a free program for children that have turned 4 before September.

After the most nonconventional start to a school year ever, the Pinewood staff and students have found their "grove!" We are very excited to see the learning that is taking place in our brick and mortar classrooms, as well as our virtual classrooms. Student engagement is high and our Panther Pride can be seen in our hallways and on our playground and common areas. Students are reaching out and continuing to help each other even in this non-traditional format. It is great to see our virtual Panthers helping each other out and problem solving via Microsoft Teams meetings and chats as well.

Last week we found ourselves very fortunate to receive a mobile food pantry at Pinewood. This pantry is available to all district families, but since there are other pantries at WWMS and Tower, this will serve to provide emergency food and toiletries primarily to Pinewood families. We are very excited to be able to offer this service and a would like to thank Warren Woods community member Mr. Fred Huebener and his family for their efforts in making this happen!

Westwood Wildcats would like to express our appreciation for all of the hard work and dedication to our students. We are excited to embark on our 2nd Quarter of the school year. Each and every day, we are committed to the ongoing mission and vision of our school and district. Last week, our district staff participated in Election Day Professional Development. Based on feedback from teachers, they were inspired by the content and variety of options available to enhance their professional practice. We plan to continue our work and commitment to the valuable PLC process with district teams. Over the past several weeks, many Westwood teachers have engaged in virtual coaching with Dr. Taylor. We are excited to continue our work with literacy by meeting the needs of both F2F and Virtual students.
