October Newsletter
Dear LMS Families,
I hope everyone is enjoying the fall and the last few days of warmth that we have left. It has been a pleasurable start to the school year. The 7th and 8th grade students have shown great leadership skills and the 6th graders have transitioned into the LMS culture flawlessly. I truly cannot remember a more enjoyable start to a school year. It is hard to believe, but we are a few weeks away from the end of Quarter 1. Please remind your son/daughter to continue to monitor Student Vue/ Parent Vue so they don't have any surprises come October 27.

Verkada - Vistor Management System - LMS
Linden Middle School will be piloting a Visitor Management System, Verkada. This system is designed as a layer of security that will help to better identify an individual who enters our building and their purpose. This system uses enhanced technology that scans an individuals drivers license and screens guests against registered sex offender lists and various criminal databases.
When entering Linden Middle School, all guests will see a monitor (iPad) with instructions. Guests will answer a couple of questions, and then be asked to scan their drivers license, which is delivered to a third party database provider (Checkr) to search state and local sex offender registries for matching records. This information is transferred to the building administrative assistant. Once approved, a badge will be printed, allowing the visitor to adhere the badge and enter the building.

Assistant Principal's Corner
Hello LMS Parents,
As we continue to stress the importance of appropriate behaviors here at LMS, we are going to implement a new process called hall sweeps. Hall sweeps will be completely random and consist of "sweeping" up any students that are in the hallway after the tardy bell. Those students will be escorted down to a meeting area where I will address appropriate decision making and making sure students are where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there. The importance of being to class on time, while also being prepared, is a lifelong skill that our students will take with them forever.
As we begin to implement this process, I want to inform all of the parents of the consequences of being caught in a hall sweep. The first time being caught will result in a lunch detention. The second time being caught will result in one hour of after school detention and a phone call home. The third time being caught will be to the discretion of administration of how it is handled. The expectation for all of our students is to be to class on time and not messing around in the hallway, which ultimately is a distraction to our learning environment because students show up late to class.
As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me at lbelill@lindenschools.org.
