The Cardinal Letter
Spring Edition 2020/2021
Dear Parents and Students...
I hope this third quarter newsletter finds you well. Spring has finally arrived!
There are so many great things that happened at Chi-Hi this past quarter. During a time when we didn’t even expect to be able to have sports, we had students go to state in Men’s Swim, Bowling, and Women’s Hockey. Congratulations to the Women's Hockey Team for bringing home the Gold. We are so proud of all of our students' accomplishments. The dedication of our coaches, parental support, and student talent and drive continue to support the growth of our athletic programs and helped earn many Chi-Hi achievements this year. These successes help to sustain a positive school culture.
During the spring season, we are deep into state assessments. We have completed the ACT. The students put a lot of effort into the state assessment and the new online testing process ran smoothly.
Other upcoming state assessments include the Forward and Aspire. The Forward Exam is at the end of March or Mid- April depending on when your 10th grade son or daughter has a US History Class.
The Aspire Test for ninth and tenth graders is coming up on April 30. Testing will be done during the morning, and after lunch, the students will participate in a shortened class schedule.
Our spring athletic programs have started lifting and conditioning. We anxiously await the start of the season on April 19. You can follow the weekly Cardinal Activities newsletter or twitter feeds for updates on competition dates or changes.
We are hosting a spring prom for SENIORS ONLY on Saturday, April 10. This date lands in between athletic seasons, so if it is necessary to quarantine, no seniors will miss any of their senior competitions.
We have a lot to be grateful for this school year amidst this pandemic: successful athletic and academic programs, great students, staff, parents, and community members. Thanks for your partnership in making our school a place for our students to grow and find their purpose.
Respectfully yours,
Donna Goodman
Chippewa Falls Senior High School Principal

Plan Ahead: 2021-2022 Registration
Registration will be held Monday, August 23 through Wednesday, August 25 from 7:30am until 4:00pm.
In-person registration is completely optional. Most registration activities can be completed online starting August 1. Students who would like to register in person but will be out of town or have other conflicts preventing them from attending one of the registration days will have an opportunity to complete the registration activities once school starts in September.
Once again, we will not have picture day during the registration event. Picture day will be planned for a school day in September.
New student appointments: High school students who are entering the CFAUSD will have an opportunity in mid-August to meet with a counselor and set up a course schedule. Appointments will be set up Tuesday, August 17 through Thursday, August 19, from 7:30am until 4:00pm. A staff member will be contacting families to set up appointments during the first week of August.
For More Information: An online newsletter will be sent out to families in late July with detailed registration information. Questions regarding registration can also be directed to Danielle Hatfield at hatfiedn@chipfalls.org.

Troubleshooting Tips for Students at Home
Many problems are solved with a shut down. Use the Shutdown icon, or hold the Power button for 10 seconds. Watch for the power light to turn off.
If an app, the sound or keyboard is acting quirky, or not working at all, try closing all the tabs and the browser. If that does not work, try the first tip.
Check wireless connection.
Perform Safety Check using the menu, Settings, Safety Check, Click Check Now. (This checks for updates and a few other things.)
Disable extensions and see how things work. Re-enable one at a time to see if the problem re-appears. Many problems are caused by Extensions.
Check accessibility features in the Settings menu to turn off spoken feedback or modify mouse and display settings.
If the screen is black, check brightness settings
If you are connected to the Internet, but cannot log into a particular website that you have used in the past, go to the Chrome menu , click More Tools, click “Clear browsing data...”, check all the boxes. Select a time period from the drop down. (All Time is the most effective) Click the “Clear browsing data” button.
Power off Chromebook nightly using the Power Off icon.
Perform a Powerwash to reset the device. See instructions here.
If you are using PearsonRealize and you get a screen with spinning dots that says “Loading” and the above tip doesn't work, open a new tab. Go to www.pearsonrealize.com, click sign in if you are not taken to your book portal automatically.
For security reasons, the student Chromebook will lock when they close the lid.
For security reasons, the student Chromebook will lock if it is left idle for 60 minutes.

Attendance Information
The high school attendance line is accessible 24 hours per day: 715-726-2406

To request a Pass to Leave or an Excused Tardy Pass: Press #1
To report or excuse an absence: Press #2
Regular student attendance is required by law (State Statute 118.16) and is essential if students are to make satisfactory progress in school. Students are required to attend all class periods. It is the responsibility of the student and the parent to see that the student attends school each day school is in session. Excused absences include: illness or injury; medical, legal, DMV or military appointments, college visits, funerals, school related activities including sporting or competitive events and field trips, family vacations (please notify the school in advance) and family emergencies.
MEDICAL EXCUSE REQUIREMENT: Excessive student absences may result in the student being placed “On Medical”. Parents will receive a letter notifying them that their student has been placed “On Medical” and all future illness-related absences may require a medical excuse from a physician.
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: Any absence that is not cleared by a parent or guardian within 5 school days of the absence (the day of the absence and 4 additional school days) may be listed permanently as unexcused, which will generate a major behavior referral.
