This week the whole school listened as Mrs. Ward read, Zane's Little World. This fit into our Wednesday morning theme of finding ways people are similar and different. Zane, an autistic young boy, communicates differently than some other children. However, he has many of the same interests such as playing on the playground. Although Zane sometimes likes to be on his own playing, he wants to have friends just like the other kids. The kids in the school learn that Zane wants to feel included just like them. This story provided another opportunity for students to learn how to celebrate similarities and differences.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held this Wednesday, April 14th from 1:15 pm - 3:15 pm and 4:15 pm - 6:15 pm via zoom. You do not need to re-register for spring conferences. You can use your same login that you created for the December conference. Your child's teacher will send out a zoom link for the conference prior to April 14th. We look forward to meeting with you to further our partnership in the education of your child!

Report Cards will be available in the Aspen portal around 3:30 p.m. this afternoon!

Lunches will be sent home if your child would like one.

The Tech Department will be collecting the elementary loaner Chromebooks and chargers Monday, April 12th - Friday, April 16th.

Families-you can either drop off the loaner Chromebook and charger to the school lobby or send the Chromebook and charger into school with your child and they can bring it to the lobby.

This week the third graders had a virtual field trip from the Boston Tea Party. Nurse Jessica also visited to give a refresher on hand washing and social distancing guidelines.

The fourth grade just finished their unit on equal rights. Students in both classrooms read books that focused on famous African-Americans: Barack Obama, George Washington Carver, Sojourner Truth, and Rosa Parks. There were many thoughtful discussions about how each individual fought for equal rights. The unit culminated in a project where the students had a choice of media: dioramas, timelines, articles, poems, Google Slide presentation, or a mobile. In these photos, Sasha Mullen is displaying her diorama of Sojourner Truth, while Cameron Roy displays the timeline he created about Sojourner Truth.

In math, fifth grade students enjoyed finding the volume in their rectangular prisms!

The fifth graders have been busy learning about plant structures and their functions. This week, the fifth graders had the opportunity to explore the anatomy of an alstroemeria flower. The students did a great job dissecting their flower and identifying the different parts of their flower. By examining the parts of their flower, the students were able to gain a better understanding of the process of pollination. Thank you to Flowers and Festivities in Scituate Harbor for the flower donations!

Please put your child's name on your dash board when you pick up your child at dismissal. This will help us move the car line along quicker. Thank you for your patience during our whole school dismissal!
