In Person Learning Pathway
Boevers Elementary Safety Measures
Classroom Cohorts
· Students will be kept within their classroom cohorts throughout the instructional day.
Specials- Art, Music, PE
· Students will attend specials with their classroom cohorts.
· The specials schedule will allow for additional transition time between classes to disinfect surfaces in the classroom.
Physical Distancing
· Students will be encouraged to be mindful of their space within each classroom.
· Teachers will arrange their classrooms with distancing in mind.
Arrival/Dismissal
· When arriving at school, students will walk directly to their classroom. Students will not be asked to wait in the gym or cafeteria.
· To minimize transitions for our youngest students, PK students will enter school at the exterior PK classroom door. Parents will not be allowed into the classroom.
· Students will remain with their classroom cohort until the end of the day. Car rider students will wait within the classroom until their name is displayed on the classroom Smartboard before exiting.
· Car riders with last names A-L will exit to the back loop. Car riders with last names M-Z will exit to the front car loop. Parents will remain in their car.
· 3rd-5th grade students who walk home will dismiss one class at a time through the south walker doors.
· 2nd grade walkers will dismiss through the front entry.
· PK students must be picked up by a parent or guardian at the PK exterior classroom door. Car dismissal will not be an option for PK students this school year.
Cafeteria-Breakfast & Lunch
· Students will eat lunch with their classroom cohorts. Students will be spaced appropriately to allow appropriate distancing. Students will be supervised by a duty assistant or a staff member. After eating, students will have the opportunity to select a preferred activity. When the classroom teacher returns from his/her 30-minute lunch break, classroom instruction will resume.
· Students will participate in recess at a time scheduled within the instructional day; however, recess may not be directly before or after lunch.
Recess
· We will utilize our new playground equipment and schedule recess blocks for each cohort to enjoy.
· Students will rotate between the two available big toys (north and east side of school).
Facial Coverings & Handwashing
· The district and Board of Education are recommending the requirement of masks to be worn while inside the building. Facial coverings are an excellent way to prevent the spread of illnesses. Not only do we want to protect each other from getting sick with COVID-19, but we also want to be mindful of the different germs and illnesses as we are likely to have a limited number of substitutes this school year.
· Hand-washing will be practiced and reinforced throughout the school day. This will be something students will do upon entering their classroom and be asked to wash their hands multiple times throughout the day.
· We will have additional sanitizing stations throughout the building.
Other Safety Measures
· There will be no visitors allowed within the building.
· The district has purchased additional ionizing machines to allow for thorough disinfecting. These machines will be used regularly.
· The building will be cleaned and disinfected multiple times throughout the day.
· We are increasing the amount of outside air circulating through HVAC damper controls.
Communication
· The district has committed to transparent communication regarding any transmission of COVID-19. The district's re-entry task force is working on developing a protocol of within school communication regarding any illness or transmission of COVID-19.
Distance Learning
· In cooperation with local health officials, a decision may be made to cease “In-Person Learning” for a period of time. In these instances, students would transition to “Distance Learning” led by their regular classroom teacher.
· Please note: Distance Learning is not the same as Virtual Learning (The Virtual option takes place entirely at home for an entire semester). Distance Learning will be put in place for those students choosing “In-Person Learning” only when there is a need to close school buildings. There will likely not be much advance notice in the event we need to move to Distance Learning due to circumstances beyond our control.
· Again, our #1 priority is keeping students and staff safe in the event of an outbreak.
Instructions for Selecting In-Person Learning or Virtual Learning
Union Public Schools’ families will select which learning pathway is right for their student(s). If electing to attend the In-Person Learning option, no action will be needed.
In order to effectively plan, we are asking all parents who are selecting Virtual Learning to submit this request by 5:00 PM on Monday, July 27. Making this decision as soon as possible allows Union Public Schools to plan for student schedules, staffing, and preventative health and safety measures.
Schools will plan for student schedules, staffing, and preventative health and safety measures. Should you have questions, please contact your child’s principal. Phone numbers and email addresses can be found on Union’s website at www.unionps.org under the “Schools” tab.
