News From Nighthawk Nation
Elevating Excellence in Academics, Character & Community
Week of November 9, 2020
Leadership Corner
As you may know, we are seeing an increase in COVID cases in Colorado, this includes Larimer County. While schools do not appear to be a source of spread here, or around the state where students are learning in-person, community spread is affecting our ability to operate. Cohort, classroom, and grade level closures are likely to continue to occur as we see additional positive cases this week as a result of Halloween activities and we anticipate in the weeks following Thanksgiving for the same reason.
When we relax precautions on the weekends for social gatherings or for holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving where we gather with family and friends or travel to another state, the likelihood of catching and spreading COVID increases. Activities outside of school have implications for our ability to continue in-person learning for New Vision Charter School students. While we are all weary of restrictions, wearing masks, limiting gatherings, washing hands, keeping our work and home environments sanitized, and staying home when ill are critical to keeping our schools open and our communities healthy. Also, please remember that if anyone in your household has a COVID test pending per a physician's recommendation, or due to exhibiting COVID symptoms, all students must stay home until the person tested is notified that they do not have the virus.
We remain fully committed to our goal of continuing in-person learning as long as it is safe for our students and staff. Please be assured that we are closely monitoring state, county, and district data and are in regular communication with public health officials and other school districts in our area.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our school communities healthy!

Driveline Procedures
1. Only drop students off in the drop off zone. Dropping anywhere else, including 1st street is incredibly dangerous.
2. Only turn right out of the parking lot. Use the roundabout East of the school if you need to go west.
3. The Brookstone Apartments are not a turnaround and it is posted. Please use the roundabout East of the school.
4. Move only when NVCS Staff motion you to do so.
5. Avoid cell phone usage during Driveline.
6. Join Driveline only at the end of the line. In the afternoon, this may be past Denver. Please do not cut in line at the intersection at 1st and Denver.
7. You may not join Driveline in the afternoon from the East.
8. Unload students only from the passenger sides.
9. We have staff to help load and unload students, no need for you to get out of your car.
10. Have an extra dose of patience, grace, and kindness to keep everyone safe. The staff and students are moving as fast as we can to get your kids to and from school safely.

Message from Principal Hejl
This week was exciting! We had a racoon friend who wandered onto the playground during our 5th grade afternoon recess. Luckily, it was safely removed thanks to Larimer Country Humane Society. Aside from that, we are moving into new units, students are meeting their PBIS rewards goals, and we are getting excited for the holiday season!
Parents, please remember the importance of keeping students home if they are experienceing any flu like symptoms. We appreciate the caution we have seen from so many families, it is this cautious approach that has resulted in us being able to keep cohorts open and students here with us.
NVCS is hosting our first ever Virtual Donate Day on November 17, 2020. Due to limits on gathering in numbers we are hoping for a strong turn out for this digital fund raiser. PTO has sponsored so many important learning opportunities for students in the past. Please consider making a donation during this day, any amount makes a difference! We could not do the amazing things that we do without our parent and community support, we hope you will join us on November 17, 2020 to help us raise funds to sponsor educational opportunities for the students at New Vision. For more information click on the link below.
Have a great weekend!

6-8 Grade Athletics Update
NVCS Athletics will begin in January with Boys basketball (1/4-2/6), next is Girls Basketball (2/8-3/12), followed by Girls Volleyball and Boys Soccer (3/22-4/24), and finishing with Girls Soccer and COED Track and Field) (4/26-5/21). Complete schedules for Boys and Girls Basketball, Volleyball, and Boys Soccer may be found at NVCS Athletics. Girls Soccer and Track schedules will be released soon.
If you are planning to participate in the NVCS Athletics program, please take the time to read through the Athletic Packet and fill out the Athletic Participation Form. Many families have completed this step and we appreciate it. Also, each student/athlete will need an up to date physical to participate. The physicals are good for one calendar year.
Look for open gym schedules, Girls Soccer and Track schedules, and an Athletic video presentation in the next few weeks.
As always if you have questions please contact me. My school extension is 1101 and my email is tbissell@newvisioncharterschool.org.
