Updates for the Week of December 19 - December 20, 2022 Updates for the Week of December 19 - December 20, 2022

Dear Shadow Hills Families,

Two more days until our Winter Break! This past week we had our Jolly Boutique and our Giving Tree. Thank you, PTA, for coordinating two excellent end-of-year events for our students and families. Our new AV system is almost complete in the auditorium. Thank you all for the past two years of support for all our fundraising. The AV system is only possible because of community support.

I'm looking forward to two more beautiful days of 2022 and cannot wait to see all the growth and laughter to come in 2023.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Meris

Character Education - Gratitude Character Education - Gratitude

Here at school, we have been very busy learning about gratitude - what it means, and how we can practice it! Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are many ways that you can help you child continue to learn about the theme gratitude through reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it! We have really enjoyed exploring this topic at school, and I hope your family will enjoy it just as much!

Reading About It

Here are some books to help you learn more respect:

Bear Says Thanks - By Karma Wilson | Kids Books Read Aloud
Gratitude is my Superpower Read Aloud by Reading Pioneers Academy

Practice It!

Start a gratitude journal with your child! Get a blank notebook and work together to design it. Each night, spend time together adding the things you are thankful for. It is fun to review your list every once in a while to see all of the things you have to be grateful for!

Talk About It!

Here are some discussion points to help you talk about courage with your child:

  • What do you think gratitude means and why is it important?
  • How do you think being grateful for what you have can affect your attitude?
  • What are some big things you are thankful for? What are some small things?
  • What are some things you can do at home and at school to remember to be more thankful?
