It's Fall Y'all!
The start of October brings the smell of fall, turning of the leaves, and pumpkins! It is such an refreshing time of year! It is also brings in Homecoming and other ELITE events at BCMS!
We had an awesome week last week at BCMS! Clubs started on Friday and students were excited to get started. There was so much engagement in our classrooms this week, from science experiments to collaborative groups in math to creative writing assignments to use of technology and FLIPgrid, it was evident that learning was ELITE!
We want to thank you for working with us to implement our new check-out procedures! Please remember, the main office is a busy place. We are working hard to limit early check-outs and appreciate a pre 3:00 check out if at all possible.
Please make sure that you are signed up for my REMIND, as well as the grade level REMINDS so you don't miss a beat! We are about to get into the busy time of fall with school pictures, games, dances, and activities at school! You definitely want to be in the know at #BeBCMS!

Georgia Milestone Fall Field Test
This fall, our 7th grade scholars will be participating in a Field Test for the Georgia Milestones Test. The testing will take around 2 periods of 2 days and will be given the week of October 23rd. This test will not be scored. BCMS will not get any data on scholars after this test, it is solely a test run for the Georgia DOE. We are excited about the opportunity to practice our test taking skills on standardized assessments. If you have questions, please call the school.

Map Testing- Reports and Goals
Our scholars take the MAP test three times a year: Fall/Winter/Spring. We are using our Fall Reading RIT scores to watch our progress in reading. Literacy is a school wide focus for us this year and we are committed to grow readers!
MAP testing is a great way for our scholars to show how much they have grown and an awesome way for us as teachers to use this data in our planning and lesson designs. MAP tests are designed to measure growth over time, so that makes them very different than our "state tests" known as Georgia Milestones. MAP tests give you tons of great information in regards to achievement at this moment. Here is a great article to read that will give you more information in regards to MAP testing.

Notes from Ms. Raeburn
We put a bow on an incredible week at BCMS by celebrating our August of the Month scholars. What does it take to be a #BeBCMS PBIS Scholar of the Month? Well, you need to demonstrate our PBIS expectations at all times. Those expectations are:
- Be Respectful
- Courteous
- Manage YOUR Behavior
- Strive for ExExExCellence!
The best way for our scholars to demonstrate those is by ELITE modeling of adults. When we model the behavior we expect of our students it helps them to fully understand our expectations. Little eyes are watching us at all times! Tomorrow, on my favorite day of the week(#CelebrateMonday), we will be announcing our September PBIS Scholars of the month and our staff member of the month! Our behavior data has decreased significantly from last year: We have a 67% decrease in MAJOR referrals for behavior. That is ELITE!
At the end of the quarter, progress reports will look a little different than in years past. If you have questions about your child's progress report, please contact his/her teacher. Please don't forget, in order to get PowerSchool access, you need to stop by the main office and see Miss Shelby for your log in!
Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! If you have a concern or a comment, please do not hesitate to email or call me: eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630.
Thank you for your partnership and commitment to making #BeBCMS the best middle school on the planet!
