Concerning "Tik Tok Challenges"
There are two TikTok Challenges that some of our students have made the unfortunate decision to participate in that have caused problems at Hixson. The first one is called Devious Licks. For this challenge, students steal and/or vandalize school property. At Hixson, students have stolen items such as soap and/or hand sanitizer dispensers, and they have vandalized restrooms by writing on the walls, toilets, sinks, etc with a variety of writing materials. We have also had students take screws out of the seats of our brand new cafeteria tables and from partitions in our brand new restrooms.
It is very hurtful to see instances of senseless destruction from our very own students. We have been able to identify students who are responsible for this damage, but there are also some issues that we are still investigating. Students who are caught engaging in these behaviors will be disciplined in accordance with the Webster Groves School District Discipline policy. In addition, parents will be responsible for the cost of the damage caused by their child. Parents/guardians, please have a conversation with your child about not participating in the Devious Licks challenge, and to report any issues that they see to Hixson administration.
The second challenge is the Paqui one chip challenge. Paqui chips are extremely hot when eaten. For this challenge, people eat one chip to see how they react. In some instances, this challenge has made students sick enough to have to go to the hospital. Some students have suffered serious complications such as seizures, comas, fainting, and damaged airways. At Hixson, we have had students attempt to participate in this challenge at lunch. Some students have gotten very sick at varying levels of severity. Parents/guardians, we need you to please have a conversation with your child about the dangers of this challenge and instruct them not to participate. If we see a student with Paqui chips at school, we will confiscate them in an effort to protect your child.
In conclusion, we expect all Hixson students and staff to demonstrate our core values of respect, positive relationships, and teamwork. Thank you so much for your support of Hixson Middle School!
