Boonsboro Middle School
Family Update - October 2022
Message from the Principal
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the fall season.
As a reminder, the end of Marking Period 1 ends on Monday, November 7th. There is no school on Tuesday, November 8th. Students are encouraged to spend time this week making sure all their assignments are turned in. Parents - time a few moments to check your student's progress on ParentVue and contact teachers if you have any questions.
This week students will be taking Interim Assessments in ELA and Math. These are benchmark assessments that allow teachers to see how well students are progressing towards the standards that are tested at the end of the year on the state MCAP assessment. Make sure students get a good night sleep and have a healthy breakfast in the morning.
Please make sure to read the rest of this newsletter for updates, especially related to Good Standing. We have some new deadlines and lanyard procedures in order for students to attend our next celebration event on November 17 - a staff vs. student Lip Sync Battle!
Continue students to read and track their minutes on their "Track My Read" website!
Mr. Bright
Important Dates
Tuesday, November 8 - NO SCHOOL
Friday, November 11 - Picture Retakes for students previously absent
November 23 - 25 - NO SCHOOL, Thanksgiving Break
PLEASE SEE ADDITIONAL DATES AND DEADLINES UNDER THE PBIS SECTION LATER IN THIS NEWSLETTER.
BMS Reading Challenge
Quest to 5 Million Minutes
Should we meet our goal, students will be treated to a spooky read aloud from Mrs. Hurley and a special treat.
Currently we are short of this goal, but I know students are being diligent with their reading but may not be recording their progress. Please remind your student to also track their reading on the "Track My Read" website!
Encourage students to continue to read for at least 40 minutes per day (20 min in ELA, 20 at home).

PBIS - Good Standing
Reminder that our Good Standing Criteria is:
- Passing ALL classes (60% or above)
- No unexcused absences or tardies to school
- No more than 4 infractions, no more than 1 referral, and no ISS/ OSS
Good Standing will be re-evaluated at the conclusion of Marking Period 1. Students in Good Standing will be able to participate in the following:
- Attend November 17 Lip Sync Battle Assembly
- Extra 10 minutes of outdoor time during lunch on Fridays
- Eligible to participate in morning recreation prior to the 8:30 bell
Please note the following deadlines and expectations for Good Standing and attendance to a Lip Sync Battle Event on November 17:
November 10 - All attendance letters for absences during Marking Period 1 are due
November 15 - All appeal letters written by students due to Mr. Bright
Students are able to write an appeal letter to Mr. Bright if they feel they have unfairly been excluded from Good Standing. Each letter will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Parents - we are unable to deliver lanyards to students if they forget them at home. Part of this process is to build responsibility in our students and we encourage them to keep their lanyards in the Chromebook case to bring to school each day. We also do not have the staffing ability to deliver lanyards for students that have left them at home.
