Washington Wildcat Chat
May Edition 2023
Letter from Ms. Brito
It's hard to believe that May has arrived! We have a lot of exciting things happening at Washington this month and are looking forward to the warm spring weather ahead!
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week at Washington and we would like to thank the PTO for honoring our teachers with special treats throughout the week. We encourage our families to join us in appreciating our excellent teachers and staff. Please see below for ways you can thank your teachers for all they do. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with such a talented and dedicated group of educators and I know that our students are lucky to have them as well.
On a separate note, Ms. Van Ardale has announced that she will be retiring at the end of this school year. We are sorry for our loss but are incredibly excited about what the future holds for her! I thank Ms. Van Arsdale for her service to Washington School over the past five years. She has been an integral part of our school community and we are grateful for her service to our students, staff, and community. We will miss her dearly and wish her all the best in retirement.
With that said, I am pleased to announce that the Board of Education has approved the selection of Jennifer Adams as the new assistant principal at Washington Elementary School, effective July 1st. We were able to introduce Ms. Adams to the staff today and give her a warm Wildcat welcome.
Mrs. Adams comes to D64 with more than two decades of experience in education and has held numerous leadership roles. Most recently, she was an assistant principal in Lake Zurich School District 95. You can read more about Mrs. Adams and her appointment on our website. Please join us in welcoming her to District 64 and Washington School!
As always, we thank you for your partnership and look forward to a successful end to the school year.
Warm Regards,
Angie

Wildcats Give Back - Penny Wars Competition
A penny war is a friendly competition for spare change that will provide our Washington students the opportunity to learn both the value of money and the importance of fundraising for a good cause.
The goal is for each grade level to collect the most points (coin values = point values) from Monday, May 8-Friday, May 19. ONLY coins (pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters) will be accepted, no paper money. This is accomplished by students bringing in spare change and collecting it in their classrooms.
Total coin value will be provided at the end of each week, and the winning grade level after the two weeks will get to choose where the money is donated from a short list of charities and non-profits as well as an extra recess at Centennial Park! This is a great way for our kids to learn about giving back and working together for the greater good.
Teacher Appreciation Week May 1st - 5th
Join the Washington PTO in thanking our teachers & staff for all they do for our school!
Choose a day or two (or all 4) to participate. The PTO will be stocking the lounge with extra goodies and other surprises for our teachers and staff throughout the week.
