John Harris Elementary - WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL
Mission: To educate and prepare each student to succeed in a changing world.
WELCOME BACK to the 2022 - 2023 School Year
John Harris Families:
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! Wow! What a fast summer! We hope you had a relaxing summer with family and friends! We are almost ready to open the doors to 700 smiling faces. The rooms have been cleaned and floors have been polished. The teachers are putting their final touches on their classrooms.
All families are welcome to join us on the first day of school. We will be having our annual Flag Raising Ceremony. This will take place on the playground. Following the Flag Raising, you are invited to the picnic shelter for a Boo Hoo Breakfast. This is a chance for new families to connect with other families.
Volunteers: Volunteers are welcome to come to school. We asking you to remember to complete your volunteer form ahead of time. Here is the link to complete that process. Click on Volunteer Registration Form to complete the form and return this form to school. If you plan on helping on field trips, you will need to complete Disclosure and Release of Authorization Information which is the background portion of helping in the classroom. We do need to make sure we keep all students and staff safe. Volunteers must have an ID scanned before entering the building.
School Supply Orders: If you ordered school supplies earlier this summer, the PTO will let you know when the supplies arrive. Thank you for ordering with the PTO!
School Hours: We have adjusted our school hours to a new start time of 8:05 a.m. and a new dismissal time of 2:50 p.m. Students may enter the building through the main office at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast. Students will be outside on the playground before school. Supervision will start at 7:45 a.m. We ask our families to drop off after 7:45 a.m. Students will line up at 8:00 a.m. at their assigned doors to enter the school and the tardy bell rings at 8:05 a.m. Students will be dismissed from their classrooms at 2:50 p.m. and exit their designated doors. Teachers will share this information at Open House or in other forms of communication.
Birthday Treat Changes: As a reminder, we are asking families not to send birthday treats to school. Instead, we ask you to think of other ways to celebrate your child's birthday. (Donating a book to the classroom, coming to read to your child’s class, teaching a new game or dance to the class). We also discourage sending balloons to school. Thank you for understanding!
Fun Run (Grades K-2) /Color Run (Grades 3-5):
This year we have the opportunity to participate in another Fun Run. The Fun Run is a wonderful experience where kids and families will learn important character building lessons. Families are invited to help their school by sharing about our fundraiser with family and friends. At the end of the program, all students will participate in the Fun Run. Students in Grades 3-5 will have the option to participate in a Color Run. Students will complete 35 laps of running, walking, skipping, or dancing their way across the finish line. We will be looking for volunteers! This fundraising event will kick off in a few weeks, so get excited about helping our school raise funds! More information to come!

Staff Spotlight
My name is Bryan Conner.
It is my pleasure to introduce myself as Dean of Students of John Harris Elementary. I am proud and excited to join this school community and to support our students and their families. In the nearly two decades I have worked in education, I have served in a variety of roles that have reaffirmed my belief that all students can learn, grow, and achieve beyond what they think is possible. Most recently, I was the Dean of Students at Lowell Elementary. Prior to that I served as an instructional coach and classroom teacher in the district. My teaching experience was in third, fourth, and fifth grades. It has been powerful to see the impact of positive relationships as a driving force in school communities. I am dedicated to supporting all students and will strive to continue the positive relationships, rigorous learning, and the incredible John Harris environment that encourages students to celebrate their individuality as learners. I look forward to meeting students and their families this school year!
