How can it already be May? We are having so much fun learning this year. We have a big push over the next 8 weeks to reach our personal math goals; improve our reading; perfect our speaking and writing in both French and English; and continue to explore the 7 Grandfather Teachings and what it takes to be a good citizen.
We are having our annual Walk-a-Thon fundraiser in May – please consider supporting it as all funds raised go to improvements that directly affect our students. Some of the things we are going to use the money for are purchasing a new score clock for the gym (ours is over 25 years old and we cannot get bulbs or replacement parts for it) as well as looking at some more flexible seating in classrooms and common areas for students. We have had tremendous success in the past years and are counting on our wonderful school community again! Our walk-a-thon will take place on Friday, June 2nd at 2:15 p.m. and we love when families can join us.
Stay tuned over the remainder of the school year for different events: Track and Field meets, Heart of the Youth Powwow, out-of-school curricular experiences, and Gr 5-8 band trips.

THE MUSIC PROGRAM
The Music program at Vickers has been bustling as usual! Congratulations to soloists Kai Twyver (trumpet), Maryann Odogwu (saxophone), and the Grade 4 Northern Spirit Flute ensemble who were chosen to perform at the "Best of the Best" 75th Anniversary Music Festival Gala concert at the EA Rawlinson Centre on April 24th. You played beautifully and represented Vickers very well! Now we are getting into Band and Choir trip season so things are really getting busy and fun as we make preparations for those excursions.
For those interested in musical theatre, registration for the fall program of the Broadway North Youth Company opens on Monday, May 1st at 10:00am. This year's production is The Little Mermaid Jr. and the slots do tend to fill up quickly, so register online at www.earc.ca/fall-program to secure your spot!
Mrs. Lohneis wants to extend a thank you to the parents who have been so supportive of all of the activities of the music department this year. We are gearing up for more festivals, performances, and workshops so the fun for this school year isn't over yet! Keep practicing and having fun!

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Our staff parking lots are a “no drop off zone” as they are out of bounds for students.
We urge parents to support us in this safety endeavor by dropping off your children on the west side of the school on Olive Diefenbaker Drive; on Bradbury Drive, east of the Special Needs bus zone and between Gisi Road and Olive Diefenbaker Drive.
We encourage the children to cross all streets in a safe manner by crossing at the corner or at cross walks. Teacher supervision is also provided at our major crosswalks.
The Community Club rink parking lot is the bus pick up zone after school for our parents to meet their children for pick up. Please refrain from turning around in the driveways, as this is disruptive to the homeowners.
JOB POSTING ( BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM)
Vickers Recreational Care Program (the before and after school program) is looking for workers for the 2023-24 school year. They are looking for junior workers which are grade 7/8, and program workers which are grade 9 and up. Shifts are before school and after school. Please visit the website and under "ABOUT VRCP" click on JOBS to apply.
