RES Weekly Buzz

HOT Week but a GREAT Week!
The kids have been terrific this week, and we are thrilled to have all our PreK through Grade 5 students here with us for full days. They are working diligently to follow the routines and structures put in place by their teachers to help them be successful. We know they will each continue to put their best foot forward, making good choices.
Just a few quick reminders:
•Please call the office or send a note with your child if their after-school plans change.
•Mark your child's belongings with their name, so we can return any misplaced or left behind items.
•Back to School Night is on 9/14 and is just for parents/caregivers, not students (see below for more information).
We LOVE Luna!!!
On Monday, we remember the victims of 9/11 and the families who lost a loved one. We honor the firefighters, police officers, medical personnel, and others who risked their lives to help others that day and in the weeks, months, and years to follow. As President Obama once said, “Even the smallest acts of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11.” This week, let us each complete a simple act of kindness as we celebrate the unity that was shown that day and keep our unity strong and spirited.

YOU MUST ALSO ACKNOWLEDGE RECEIPT OF THE RPS HANDBOOK ONLINE:
In an effort to be more environmentally friendly and to cut down on the paperwork that families need to complete at the beginning of the school year, Rockport Public Schools has revised our school handbooks into one updated online Student and Family District Handbook. This new version is published on our website and allows for easy access to an organized list of procedures, practices, and important information.
- Please read and review the handbook using this link: Rockport Public Schools Student and Family District Handbook.
- Parents and guardians will need to acknowledge that they have read the handbook through this form: Acknowledgment of Receipt of RPS Student and Family Handbook. This form is also available on the Handbook page of our website. Please complete ONE FORM FOR EACH child you have attending Rockport Schools. For 6th through 12th grade students, you will also be prompted to have your child sign this acknowledgement form.
Rockport Vikings Water Bottle
This year the District has provided each student with a
welcome back-to-school gift of a Rockport Vikings water
bottle. We encourage students use their water
bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Water bottles went home this week.
Please remember to label them with your child's name.

Gloucester Presents: COMMUNITY SAFETY DAY
New School Visitor Procedures
All school entrance doors will remain locked during the school day.
The main entrances of the buildings will be open in the morning for students attending before school programming and clubs and will be locked promptly at 9:00 a.m. when classroom instruction begins.
Elementary visitors must be buzzed into the front door and check in with office staff at the main office.
All visitors, including parents/guardians, will be required to provide a valid picture ID, such as a driver’s license in order to enter the building. After this, they will receive a Visitor’s Badge, which must be worn while in the building. Should any staff member not recognize an individual or see a visitor without a badge, they will inquire about the visitor’s presence in the building and direct them to the office. Visitors must return to the main office prior to leaving the building to check out with staff. We appreciate your understanding of these important security protocols.
All volunteers must complete a CORI check at least every three years and the school may issue fingerprint background checks per M. G. L. c. 71, § 38R.
FOSS Science in Action
Notes from Nurse Wagner
Please remember to turn in a copy of your child's latest physical before or by the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year.
If your child will need any medication, inhaler, or Epi-Pen for the 2023-2024 school year, new forms are required. The Medication Administration form (or a physician's order) and Authorization To Treat form will need to be filled out. Doctors should also fill out an Asthma Action Plan for any students who need an inhaler at school. These forms are available under the Health Services link on the rpk12.org website.
Please have your child wear sturdy athletic shoes during the school day to prevent slips, falls, and injuries.
Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school every day.
If you have any questions or need any forms sent home in your child's backpack, please call the RES health office at 978-546-1223 or email rwagner@rpk12.org
