PVES "In The Know"
February 2020
February Recognitions and Celebrations
February is a busy month at #PVES. As always, we continue to encourage our parents to stay connected to the classroom via SeeSaw and Parent Portal. This is an important time of the school year as we expect students to show academic growth and master grade level content. Menus for February and our district calendar for the 2020-2021 school year are posted below. During the month of February, we recognize and celebrate the following:
- National School Counselor's Week: February 3rd - 7th. Help us celebrate Ms. Lee and Ms. Ernst and thank them for all they do to support the social and emotional needs of our students.
- Black History Month: Entire month of February. All classrooms will share in a lesson pertaining to Black History Month during OLWEUS class meeting time and morning announcements will include an introduction to famous black Americans throughout our nation's history.
- Greenville Drive Reading All Stars Program: This program kicks off on Monday, February 3rd and runs through Friday, March 6th. Students will read five (5) books and complete the reading log form provided by the Drive. Participating students will receive a free ticket to the celebration game on Sunday, May 3rd where they will also receive a free book and t-shirt. Our goal is 100% participation.
Thank you for supporting our school. #pvespride
Sincerely,
Mr. Moore
Principal
Flu Season
With Flu season in progress please be more mindful of symptoms of illness. Please remember that a child should not come to school if they have had fever in the past 24 hours and should not return to school until fever free for 24 hours after the last dose of fever reducing medication. If your child is feeling poorly enough to require Tylenol or Motrin before school, they should probably not come to school that day. While Tylenol and Motrin can make your child feel better, they also mask the symptoms of illness. We encourage multiple opportunities for hand-washing throughout the day and wipe down desks and common areas on a regular basis.
February PTSO Events
First of all, we want our school community to know we are preparing for quite a transition next year in terms of our PTSO. Our entire board will be transitioning off as their children will attend Powdersville Middle next school year. We have such a strong PTSO presence in our school and thanks to the efforts of our school community and PTSO, we have impacted our students in many positive ways including a new courtyard area for learning and additional playground equipment. Please consider serving on our PTSO board next year. Don't assume someone else will take on that responsibility. Email Mr. Moore if you can help and he will put you in touch with some great people who can help get you acclimated to the needs and roles within this wonderful organization.
- Spirit Night at Tropical Smooth Cafe on Tuesday, February 4th - 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. Make sure you tell the person taking your order that you are representing PVES.

- Cookie Grams Delivered on Friday, February 14th - PTSO will deliver Cookie Grams to classrooms. Thanks to all who ordered. Remember, there will be no treat bags delivered to classrooms on Valentine's Day.
