Freshman Focus @ JCHS
September 20th-24th
Eagle Enrichment
Hi! My name is Misty Goble. I am an Assistant Principal at JCHS, and am excited to invite you to our extended day program: Eagle Enrichment.
Freshman Students:
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the first nine weeks. If you have found that your high school classes are tough, We are here for you!
Eagle Enrichment is available to help!
Freshman Parents:
We offer FREE tutoring, homework help, ACT Prep, Fun Enrichments, Volunteer Opportunities, and Student Leadership Training.
Our hours are from 7:00 - 8:20 am and from 3:30 - 5:30 pm. We have programming Monday through Thursday each week. Students pick up their breakfast in the morning, and we provide a healthy snack after school. All activities begin from either the JCMS or JCHS Library. We provide buses to each of the elementary schools every afternoon.
How Do We Support Our Students and Our Teachers??
We have a folder system for teachers to drop off make-up assignments or test corrections for students to prevent the loss of class time.
We provide tutoring and homework help for students referred because they are struggling with class work
We can support referred students with behavior management, organization, and basic preparation for school
We support our coaches by providing study hall, grade checks, and assist our athletes with communicating with their teachers
Our program is drop in, but we also accept referrals from teachers, family members, and coaches. Students come to participate in WIN time. WIN stands for, "What I Need." They attend whatever elements of programming that they need to be successful in school. Some come for academic support. Others attend for social and emotional learning, and for some, Eagle Enrichment is a safe place to be during out of school time. We are continuing to add enrichment opportunities based on student needs and on student choice.
We provide highly qualified adult and peer tutors for Math, English, Science, Social Studies, ACT, and we have student volunteer tutors in all other areas of our curriculum.

Teacher Spotlight- Mr. Brad Murphy
My name is Brad Murphy. I am a Biology/Integrated Science Teacher at Johnson Central High School in Paintsville, KY. I have been married for 16 years and have two children. Braylee is 12 and Brody is 7. Both of my children attend school at Highland Elementary. I am 40 years old and in my 18th year of teaching. My wife is Amanda Murphy who also teaches at JCHS. My wife and I both attended college at MSU where I got my degree in Biological Science Teaching with the intent of becoming a teacher at JCHS. I obtained my Masters Degree from Union in special education and received my Rank 1 from Pikeville College in Teacher Leadership.
I love teaching in the classroom and have no desire to ever leave for another role. I believe teaching is deeper than just the curriculum. It is truly about building relationships that impact students for a lifetime. I really believe that my students teach me as much as I teach them. There is no other job that would keep me as entertained, satisfied, or fulfilled as the one I'm lucky enough to have.
When I'm not in the classroom, I'm extremely busy. My daughter plays middle school soccer, elementary basketball, and travel soccer. She is also on the Academic team and plans on playing volleyball soon. My son currently plays football and baseball and is planning on playing basketball as well. He's also an avid gamer. This keeps me broke and running all over the country, but I wouldn't have it any other way. My wife is the best baker and cook around. Without her I'm not sure who I would even be. She is my rock, and she and my children are easily the most important thing in my life.
I am a simple man who enjoys his life. I love spending time with my family, and I couldn't be more proud of my wife and kids. As for me, I love being outdoors chasing whitetails, gobblers, or bass. I spend most of what little free time I have in a kayak or at my cabin. Go Eagles!
