Around the RANCH
#YouCantStopExcellence - Volume 2.16 - January 2, 2022
A Message from the Principal
Happy New Year! We hope that everyone had a restful and happy break and that you are ready to start off the new semester #MustangSTRONG!
There are a lot of great things going on around the RANCH that I am so proud of and hope that you are too! Thank you for showing how #YouCantStopExcellence at JWMHS!
Thank you to all who contributed to our traditional “Baby It’s Cold Outside” baby clothes and baby items drive. We appreciate your generosity.
Beginning on Tuesday, our bell schedule will change. We will begin our day at 8:35AM and end the day at 3:02PM. We are hopeful that this will assist with the late busses. Please make sure that you set your schedules accordingly.
As we traditionally do at the beginning of the semester, we will hold RANCH first on Tuesday, January 3rd. Please report there first!
This month we will begin the course selection process for next year. Please save the date for our Course Selection Night on January 31st at 6:30PM at the JWMHS Gym.
Good luck to all of our Winter Sports this week! Play with integrity and good sportsmanship! We will have our first annual Trinity Cup at RRHS on Saturday, January 8th where all of our Winter Sports will be taking on the Knights! And, we will be playing our Powder Puff Game against RRHS as well! Tickets can be purchased on Rycor for $20 for all events and a t-shirt and $10 for all events only. There will be food vendors and concessions throughout the day. Come out to RRHS on Saturday and let’s beat the Knights all day again and take home the Trinity Cup!
Our Winter Ball will be held on Saturday, January 29th at 6PM in the JWMHS Gymnasium. Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased on Rycor/Student Pay beginning on Wednesday, January 5th. Permission Slips and Guest Request Forms can be found on our website. If your parent has not completed the Parent/Guardian Dance Expectations Meeting, please email Ms. Schultz (jschultz@pasco.k12.fl.us) Click here for more information on our Winter Ball: https://tinyurl.com/jwmhs2022winterball
Seniors! We are excited to announce that we will be attending Grad Bash this year at Universal Studios on Friday, April 8th! You can purchase your ticket on Rycor/School Pay now.
The Senior Graduation Fee is $100 and can be paid on Rycor/Student Pay. This graduation fee is due on May 25th.
If you have an eSchool placeholder, on campus or off campus, you MUST have six new segments/semesters/classes. If you have not finished your first semester classes, they do not count in second semester’s total of six. Please continue to work on those classes as they need to be completed and then make sure that you begin your new classes. Do not procrastinate as second semester flies by!
Parking on campus is a privilege and you must have a hangtag and spot to park on campus. Applying for a spot does not guarantee parking. In fact, there is a currently a waiting list for those who want to park. We know that many of you received cars over the holiday, and you must have a hangtag to park on campus. This means you must apply to park. If you have not applied, you will not be on the waiting list if a spot opens. Please follow our rules.
Please make sure that you can pass the Covid-19 screener (Student Covid-19 Screener) each morning that is found on our website. If you cannot, please stay home. If you are positive for Covid-19 or have been exposed to someone who is positive for Covid-19, please stay home and contact your administrator so that we can help you with your school work.
You can expect weekly newsletters to keep you up to date as to what is happening at JWMHS around the ranch, as well as a weekly School Messenger call on Sunday night around 6:30PM. A good way of staying up to date on school information is to visit our website at https://jwmhs.pasco.k12.fl.us/ and follow us on Twitter and Instagram (both @JWMHS), as well as like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/jwmitchellhighschool! From there you can find several sources of information that will keep you informed of all the happenings at JW Mitchell High School.
We will strive to provide the best education possible for your child. If at any time during the school year you feel the need to contact me, please email me at jschultz@pasco.k12.fl.us or call (727) 774-9202.
I am very proud of the things going on in Mustang Nation! Let’s make more excellence this week!
Go Mustangs!

STUDENT ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES
School attendance and active participation in class are extremely important to learning and success and making good grades. Each teacher shall establish a set policy for make-up work and a grading system and shall submit a written description of his/her grading system to the principal and students at the beginning of the course.
Students need to arrive on time and stay through dismissal so they will receive important directions, class instruction and avoid disrupting other students. Parents can set a good example by encouraging students to follow the school’s time schedule. (Code of Conduct of Pasco County Schools)
Students who come to campus late or need to leave campus early MUST provide parental permission.
Procedure for checking IN to school
- Students should report to Student Services upon arriving at school.
- Students should provide documentation for excuse of tardiness. Determination of the type of absence will be done by the Attendance Secretary.
- An excused/unexcused tardy pass will be issued by Student Services.

School attendance shall be the responsibility of parents and students.(Code of Conduct of Pasco County Schools)

All students who are absent will be marked “unexcused” (U) until the parent/guardian notifies the school in writing or through the website and justifies the absence with one of the acceptable reasons as defined in Section 2. Parents should notify the school of a student’s absence and the reason for the absence with the appropriate note within three (3) school days of a student’s return to school. The form to report an excused absence can be found at http://jwmhs.pasco.k12.fl.us/mform/view.php?id=12087. Types of appropriate notes include parent notes, doctor notes or court paperwork.
Students may make up any and all assignments, tests or related work assigned on the day(s) of any excused or unexcused absence at full credit. The student is responsible for asking the teacher(s) for make-up tests, assignments and related work. Students will be given a minimum of two (2) calendar days per day or period of absence to make up all tests, assignments and related work. Students may be given additional time as stipulated on their IEP or based on teacher discretion. Work due to be turned in on the day of the absence will be turned in upon return and be given full credit. Students who have been assigned out-of-school suspension (OSS) may make up all tests, assignments and related work for full credit. (Code of Conduct of Pasco County Schools)
