MST Weekly Update
December 8, 2023

Good afternoon to all of our MST family members.
Good news! This week we had the earliest sunset of the year at 4:10 PM. While the days will continue to get shorter until the Winter Solstice on December 21st (the sun will be rising later in the morning until then), we will soon be adding minutes of daylight every day. I have included the information about snow days and remote days again in this week's update. I also added information about what we do at MST if there is a 2-hour delay.
Some of our students from MST recently have had the opportunity to travel to Boston, MA and Washington, DC as you will see in articles below. Don't forget, if you are struggling to decide what to get you son or daughter for a holiday gift, an MST Yearbook is a good idea, and ordering information is found below as well.
NHJAG - Washington D.C Leadership Trip
From November 30th through December 2 NHJAG students from MST, Kaydence Jones and Marion-maria Haff, were able to spend time in Washington D.C. While there, they were able to learn and have a lively time! For those that are unaware of JAG Jobs for America's Graduates), it is a class here at MST High School and throughout the US. It is a great way for students to learn about themselves and what they wish to do with their lives after high school. As JAG students, you get an opportunity others cannot get. You can represent your state through different roles such as Historian, Social Media Manager, President, Vice President, and many more! As you get your role you also get the chance to go to Washington D.C!
That is exactly what Kaydence and Marion did this school year! They got to see important monuments and buildings like the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, the Capital, the Whitehouse, and much more! During the three days, they also went to leadership conferences where they learned about proper handshakes and greetings, networking, advocacy training with corporate partners, and even dining etiquette. This event also had a splash of some extra fun such as the Chaos event and the Winter Wonderland Dance. These students got to meet other JAG students from the other states and had an exceptional time this past week. They hope you all look into JAG and perhaps go yourself in the next school year!

Boston Trip
On Tuesday, seven students from MST and 24 from West attended a field trip to Boston sponsored by TRIO Educational Talent Search. While in Boston, the students visited the first-generation college student center at Suffolk University, the Massachusetts State House and had some fun skating on the Frog Pond in Boston Common
Preparing for Winter Weather Ahead
As we enter the winter months, there is always the possibility that we may have a snow day or a remote learning day. All snow/remote days are decided by the superintendent of schools and publicized on WMUR-TV and WZID (95.7). In addition, text messages are sent out through our notification system as long as we have your correct phone number on file. (If you are not getting a weekly text for this newsletter, we do not have your correct cell phone number on file. Please update your information by calling the school.)
If there is a snow day, school is cancelled, and we shift our schedule so that we come back to whichever day is missed (Blue or White). So, if the snow day was supposed to be a blue day, it will be a blue day when we come back no matter how many days are missed.
If a remote day is called, we will follow the schedule for that day (Blue or White). All students are assigned to a Google Classroom for every class and should know how to access them. We will follow the daily bell schedule and students are to sign into the class on time for attendance, assignments and meeting with the teachers. Teachers will be available online for at least 50% of the scheduled class time. If a student does not log in to Google Classroom, they will be marked absent from that class or from school.
If we have a delayed opening, students will report to Advisory by 9:50 AM and then report to their period B1 HS/Block 2 CTE class. Period A HS classes and Block 1 CTE classes do not meet on delayed opening days.
NHS Clothing Drive
The National Honor Society will be collecting winter clothing for those students who may be in need of warm items. All items of clothing can be dropped off in room B135.
