Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
As September comes to a close, I have been reflecting on the start of this school year. It feels great to have students in classes learning, athletes on the field or the court playing, and dozens of clubs and activities helping Cougars pursue their interests. The pulse of CHS is going strong!
I would like to highlight some of our amazing events. We had an extremely well attended movie night last Friday, and this past Tuesday was staff recognition at the Men’s Soccer game. Alex Frixione, CHS teacher and Soccer coach, was awarded the “Extra Yard for Teachers” Award from the National Federation of State High Schools (NFHS). This Friday is a home football game against Bend; we will be highlighted by several Friday Night Lights programs. Canby Varsity Volleyball was also recently recognized with an OSAA Sportsmanship Award nomination.
Encourage your students to engage with us both in the classroom and at activities. Regular classroom attendance is key. CHS has been doing a good job this year--at any given time approximately 89% of our students are here. While we recognize that illness and emergencies occur and we don’t want students to come to school sick, we know that attendance and grades are strongly correlated. Minimizing absences when possible is a huge factor in student success. Please partner with us, and talk to your students when you get a phone call stating that your student was absent.
We want all CHS students to meet with success and leave here with a plan for their next steps. Please see the senior section below for some upcoming events to support families who choose college.
Have a wonderful week.
Best,
Cari Sloan

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-excused absence forms need to be turned into the Attendance Secretary 24 hours PRIOR to leaving for the absence.
To report an absence, call our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Please report an absence as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours after the absence.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
