Mountain View Weekly Update
May 13
Announcements & Updates
- 8th grade parents: Please check your email for a communication from Ms. Walsh regarding the West Morris Mendham High School summer "Previews" program. All students are encouraged to attend.
- Today, a school safety drill was conducted to practice the district’s processes and procedures in the event of an emergency. We successfully completed a lockdown drill with all students and staff. This was a routine drill, and there is no reason for alarm or concern. We will continue to send notifications confirming the completion of a school security drill.
- NJSLA testing resumes next week. Students in grade-level Math courses will test on Tuesday (Math 5, 6, 7, and 8), Wednesday, and Thursday. Students taking the Algebra I or Geometry assessment will test on Wednesday and Thursday. Please be reminded of the following:
- Testing begins immediately at 8:30, so please ensure your child arrives to school on time.
- Students should bring their own headphones/earbuds and a mouse (optional).
- Please be sure that your child charges his/her Chromebook overnight to ensure a full battery during testing.
- On testing days, we will follow the delayed opening schedule after testing concludes and 10:30 a.m. Click here to view the bell schedule.
- The technology department has received numerous student requests for replacement Chromebook chargers this week. Note that your child's device and charger will stay with them during their 4 years at Mountain View, therefore, the fee to replace a lost Chromebook charger is $40.00. Students are encouraged to put their first and last name on their charger so that it can be returned if found.
- On Thursday, May 19, all Mountain View students will attend a presentation with Maggie Doyne, humanitarian, activist, and Mendham Borough native. Maggie will share how her choice to take a gap year after high school led her to Nepal, and a life she never imagined. She became inspired to make a difference and took action, joining together with members of the local community, first tackling school enrollment. This led to the founding of a home for children, eventually a school for over 400, a women's center, a health clinic, and so much more. She works to remind students that not everyone has to go halfway around the world to make a difference and that there are opportunities for change in their own communities.

A note from Ms. Walsh
Happy Friday Mountain View! Today was an Advisory day. The 5th graders battled it out in the Lions’ Den with a game of “JeoPARTY” to test all their bullying prevention knowledge after completing the NJBar Foundation Bullying Prevention Guide. The 6-8 graders had a lesson on perseverance. They explored roadblocks that may sometimes get in the way of achievement and different ways that they can work through those roadblocks and persevere. They watched some famous movie clips and spoke about famous athletes and personalities that overcame adversity through perseverance. Enjoy your weekend!
