Message from Administration
Dear Families,
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! For many of us, it is a time of celebration and excitement, but also reflection. As we gear up for the winter break, we want to acknowledge all the hard work and strides students have put forth so far this year. We are looking forward to the start of the 2024 calendar year and all the opportunity it brings for our students, teachers, and school community as a whole.
Soon after we return from winter break, the parent teacher conference sign up will open in Synergy. On January 22nd, scheduling will open up and remain open until February 2nd.
This year’s winter conferences will be held on February 7th and February 8th.
We will be holding 15-minute conferences. All conferences will be held with your child’s math teacher. Below are the details of how they will be held based on the date and time of your conference.
- Wednesday, February 7th- All conferences will be held in person until 4:15 pm. After 4:15 pm, all conferences will be held virtually only.
- Thursday, February 8th- All conferences will be held virtually.
Please note, if your child is in a 4th or 5th grade GT math class, we already held 4th grade GT math conferences for the fall and 5th grade GT math conferences will take place for this current schedule (February conference window).
If your conference is virtual, once you enter the Google code or link, you will be put in a “holding space” until the teacher admits you. Because many conferences will be back-to-back, please only log on one minute before your designated time. If you have technology challenges, check email as your child’s teacher will reach out to you that way. You can also call the school for assistance.
Beginning Monday, January 22nd, you can log into HCPSS Connect to view and select from the time slots provided by the teacher for the conference. Step-by-step directions are below. If you do not have access to HCPSS Connect, please call the school for assistance at 410-313-5506.
Directions to Select a Conference Time:
Login to hcpss.org/connect
Select Conference from the left-side choices
Select Parent Scheduled Conferences at the top right
Select a time slot for your conference.
You will have access through Friday, February 2nd at 4:00pm to schedule your child’s conference by logging into HCPSS Connect.
We look forward to conferencing with you about your child’s successes and celebrating their progress!
Warmly,
Debra Anoff, Principal
Bradley Scobie, Assistant Principal

Reverse Engineering Instructional Seminar
Many 4th grade students have signed up to participate in the Reverse Engineering Instructional Seminar. Students will take apart objects to see how they work and discover the technology used inside.
As the holiday season approaches, many of you may begin purging closets and cleaning out toy rooms. If you have any items that you wouldn’t mind donating for our reverse engineering students, please send them in with your child. There is a collection box in the front lobby area and this collection will continue through January.
Items do not need to be in working order, but they should be safe to disassemble, have a way to be taken apart (flat-head or Phillips-head screws), and no larger than approximately a shoe box. Some suggested items are below:
Calculator
Clock/Watch
Alarm Clock/Radio
Television Remote Control
See and Say/Etch a Sketch Toys
Remote Control Cars or Other Cars with lights and sound
Pop Lights
Counselor's Corner

Information Worth Repeating
Gifts of Gratitude is Open!
A PTA Sponsored Staff Gifts Program
https://app.giftcrowd.com/app/join-event/Ow4L7XPgb9
The super easy and totally awesome Gifts of Gratitude is returning to Lisbon Elementary!
During this very busy time of year, please consider this convenient and completely voluntary program as an easy way to express your gratitude during the holiday season to the dedicated staff members who interact with your children every day.
Gift Crowd, an online user-friendly platform, is free to gift-buyers and gift-receivers, so every dollar contributed will go directly to the recipient! The funds collected for each staff member allows that recipient to choose how to redeem the collected amount into one or more of the many brands partnered with Gift Crowd. Instead of many people giving $5 gift cards, for example, the staff member can choose to get one gift card with the group amount.
Show your gratitude for our amazing staff - Now through December 22nd (9am):
Jump Rope For Heart
We are so excited to be starting our Jump Rope Unit in PE class to get ready for our Jump Rope for Heart Event on December 22nd! This event will be held during your students’ Related Arts time at school. Lisbon students will be working hard all month to learn new jumping skills to prepare for the event! We will be explaining to the students what the American Heart Association does and why we choose to participate in this event as a school. There is an option to raise money for the American Heart Association, but the students do not need to in order to participate! All fundraising is done online only this year! That is a family decision! Be on the lookout for other opportunities to learn and participate in challenges as a family on Canvas! If you would like to check out our school website you may do so here http://www.heart.org/khc
We are so excited to see what our Heart Heroes will learn this year!

Cold Weather Reminders
Preparing for Cold Weather
As we are approaching the cold winter weather, we wanted to remind you that students will still be going outside for recess. All clothing should be labeled with your child's name. Below you will find the HCPSS criteria we consider when having outdoor activities.
- Temperature
- Wind chill
- Age of students
- Length of time outdoors
- Condition of the playground
- Falling precipitation (more than a sprinkle or mist)
Generally, it is assumed that students will be outside for recess, physical education, or any other outdoor activity when the temperature combined with the wind chill is not less than 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
Emergency School Closings
If it is necessary for the Superintendent to close or delay the start of schools due to inclement weather or other emergencies, parents may obtain information from the following sources:
- HCPSS Status website, status.hcpss.org/
- The school system’s homepage, www.hcpss.org
- HCPSS News email and text message alerts
- HCPSS Information Hotline 410–313–6666
- Twitter – @hcpss
The current operating status is identified on the HCPSS Status website: status.hcpss.org. The HCPSS operational color code options are:
- Code Green – Normal Operations (in accordance with the HCPSS calendar)
- Code Red – Schools and Offices Closed
- Code Orange – Schools Closed; Offices Open with Liberal Leave in Effect
- Code Blue – Schools Open Two Hours Late
- Code Yellow – Schools Dismiss Early
All notifications regarding emergency closings include both the code and operating status. If schools open two hours late, there is no morning half-day prekindergarten or RECC, and morning child care programs are delayed by two hours. If schools are closed, or closed early due to weather conditions, all evening activities in schools, both school-sponsored and community-sponsored, are canceled, including aftercare programs sponsored by the Department of Recreation & Parks in Howard County Public Schools.
