Maynard Public Schools is forming a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee
I hope this message finds you well,
Over the past few years, the Maynard Public Schools have been striving to become a place of learning that fully embraces the strengths that come with being a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community.
To that end, steps have been taken including book and study groups, professional development opportunities for staff, acquisition of curricular materials at all grade levels, and outreach to community members and groups all with the goal in mind of becoming a welcoming, inclusive community that embraces the diversity that makes Maynard such a wonderful place to live, work, learn, and grow.
As we look toward the future, it is clear there is more work to be done in our school community to strengthen our commitment to the goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion. It is also clear that for this work to advance that a more systematic approach is needed that draws on the insight and experiences of as many varied stakeholders in the Maynard community as possible.
With this in mind, the Maynard Public Schools is forming a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee.
Ideally, the DEI Committee will be made up of the broadest possible cross-section of the school community including teachers, students, parents, paraprofessionals, school support staff, school administrators, and members of the greater Maynard community.
If you are committed to having a school system that embraces the diversity of all learners, strives to ensure that every member of the community is treated equitably, and works to see that all students are included in every aspect of community life this committee needs you.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Maynard Public Schools’ DEI Committee please send a communication stating your interest to the Maynard Public Schools care of Superintendent Brian Haas.
In your communication please include a statement outlining why you are interested in joining the committee, the work you would like to see the committee pursue, and any skills or experiences you have had that would enhance the work of our group.
Please send in your statement of interest by November 30, 2022. We will be holding our first meeting the week of December 5th.
Green Meadow Elementary School Building Project
The Green Meadow Elementary School project team has submitted its second MSBA submission! This submission is called the Preferred Schematic Report (PSR) and it advances the initial existing conditions verification, educational visioning & programming and Owner / Community coordination into multiple design alternatives, shows MSBA the design alternative evaluation process taken by the project team, and highlights which design alternative was ultimately selected at the end of the process.
Below is a link to a Google Drive folder that contains the previous Preliminary Design Program (PDP) submission as well as the recent PSR submission. As always, we thank you very much for your attention to the project, and we’ll continue to keep you informed as the project moves along the MSBA process!

What is The Beacon Santa Telethon?
The Beacon Santa Telethon is a student-run, 28-hour event broadcast live from Maynard High School on radio and television. It will run from 8:00 am Saturday, December 10th until 12:00 pm Sunday December 11th. The telethon can be viewed on Comcast channel 8 or Verizon channel 28. It will also be live-streamed online at wavm.org and broadcast on Radio on 91.7FM. The 2022 telethon will mark the 44th year anniversary since it began in 1978.
The annual telethon consists of a variety of acts, segments, radio shows, live entertainment, and more! A large part of the telethon is our live auction, where people can bid on gift cards, toys, clothing, electronics, and hundreds of other items. Auction items are donated before the event by small families, large businesses, and everyone in between! However, the telethon wouldn’t be successful without monetary donations from our viewers. All proceeds raised by the telethon are given directly to the Beacon Santa Fund, a non-profit that supports families during the holiday season.
If anyone wants to make either a monetary donation or donate an item for the auction, they can call and ask for me at 978-897-5213.
Please tune for the following popular segments are MORE!
