Young Adult Diverse Books Book Club Takes Last Night at the Telegraph Club to Boston!
Members of the Young Adult Diverse Books Book Club are really excited about the opportunity to travel to Boston in February to celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Museum of Fine Arts and take a food walking tour of Chinatown as part of the programming for the Vermont Reads 2023 book Last Night at the Telegraph Club thanks to a Project Grant from the Vermont Humanities Council.
Both the YADB Book Club and the Faculty/Staff Book Club will be reading Last Night at the Telegraph Club for their next book. We have a lot of copies, so please stop by the library to pick up one for yourself or a set for your class.
YADB Book Club Met to Discuss As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow
On Tuesday, the YADB Book Club met to discuss As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfka Katouh. The book takes place during the Syrian Revolution and as Luca stated, "It sparks the thought that we take our normalcy for granted." Mimi had great "admiration for Salamma" who is the main character who went from pharmacology student to hospital surgeon overnight. Some words book club members chose to describe the book are "powerful, sad and courageous." Schuyler stated that this book is "really beautifully written especially for a debut novel." And Adelle commented that As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow made her feel "the most emotion out of all the book club books." We didn't have enough time to finish our discussion, so we will be meeting on January 9 during first ARE to talk about the second half of the book.
