Well, the leaves are changing colors and the rain is coming. While I love the dry fall days, there is something nice about the brisk mornings and some rain.

I want to thank EYST for the great virtual pumpkin event, just another way to show how we can adapt and overcome, all while still sharing the positive.

As always, thank you very much for all you are doing to support students, the school, and everyone as we partner to make our CDL experience as positive as possible for our students and staff.

Ewing Young Elementary

One of the exciting changes this year is that Ewing Young has a full-time counselor, Mrs. Seet. Our goal is to have her in the Friday class meetings during the Social-Emotional Lessons (SEL) to interact directly with the students as frequently as possible. In order to make this happen, we are needing to adjust our Friday SEL times with our classrooms to allow for Mrs. Seet to be in as many classrooms as possible. You will be hearing from your student's teacher the new time they will have Friday meetings. While there is not a huge change to the schedule, there are some shifts that we need to make you aware of so your student makes it to the lesson.

I know changing schedules is hard, so we really appreciate your flexibility in this process. Mrs. Seet will love her time interacting with our amazing students.

In an effort to support reading and provide our students the opportunity to check out library books, we have begun curbside library book pickup every Wednesday. Students can check out books from the library each week. We ask students to put their books on hold before the end of the day on Friday, so that the books are ready for pick up on Wednesday. Wednesday pickup time is from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. If there is not school on a Wednesday we will not have pick-up that day.

Students can use the Follett Destiny app to browse our catalog and put books on hold. Returned books will be quarantined for at least 5 days. We are following guidance from the Oregon State Library regarding this process. Watch this short video below for instructions on putting a book on hold.

Newberg Public Schools

Each month I will host a virtual "coffee with the principal". (no I won't be having Starbucks delivered to your homes). This will be a very informal chat session where you can ask questions about the school or systems. I hope to see you there. Please look in the calendar of upcoming events for the Zoom links to those meetings.

Our Physical Education teacher, Mr. Quinn has been busy creating lessons for our students. For students in grades Kindergarten - 1st grade, you can find his lessons in your child's Seesaw application. For students in grades 2-5, Mr. Quinn has been posting his lessons in Google Classroom. We encourage our students and families to take advantage of these lessons to support health and physical activity.

Mr. Quinn is also working with his fellow Physical Education teachers to introduce new and interesting games to our students. This week they posted about Frisbee Golf. We are fortunate to have several Frisbee Golf courses set up in our local parks.
