Due to the uncertain forecast associated with Hurricane Dorian, Gwinnett County Public Schools is monitoring the weather and assessing any possible impact to our area. Just a reminder that should the decision be made to close school or delay opening that decision will be communicated using social media, the GCPS website, SchoolMessenger email, and via local news media. The Brookwood Cluster Principals would like to invite all PARENTS of students in grades 5-12 to delve into the life of an upcoming teenager and the temptations and trends they are faced with in today’s society. This first-ever cluster wide event will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 6 pm in the Brookwood High School Commons.

Please note that due to the sensitive nature of the content, we ask that you do not bring children or students to the presentation. We hope you'll take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about how social media impacts our students.

Classroom Volunteer Training is open to all BES parents who are interested in volunteering at the school. Topics include school procedures, copy room how to and etiquette, school wide supply locations, die cut and book binding machine how to, and more.

Time to kick off the Brookwood Elementary Relay for Life team by getting your 2019-2020 Relay t-Shirt. This is the first fundraiser of the year to help raise money for Relay for Life in support of the American Cancer Society.

This year’s theme is “ Get Your Heart in the Game .” The shirts will come in short and long sleeves, different colors, and all have the same design on the front. You have the option of selecting the shirt color and adding a name to the list on the back of the shirt. Please note that all names submitted will be on the back of each shirt. Custom shirts are not available. When entering names to be added on the shirts, please be sure you enter the name exactly as you want it printed on the shirts. (Ex: Names, “Jane’s Grandma” or “Uncle Bob” are all good – if you enter “Grandma” that is how it will be printed.) Short sleeved shirts cost $15, long sleeved shirts cost $20, and names can be added for $5 per name.

Orders must be made through MyPaymentsPlus. Shirt orders will be accepted online only beginning Friday, August 23rd through Monday, September 9th .

The Atlanta Gladiators and the Atlanta Hawks have both partnered with Georgia Public Libraries to promote reading and literacy for students, K-12. Below are the links for parents to register their children and log the books they have read.

Atlanta Hawks Check It Out Reading Challenge

Deadline: September 2

Students in grades K-12 who successfully read at least five books and have a parent register at will receive:

• A Check it Out Reading Challenge bookmark (while supplies last)
• A free youth ticket with the purchase of at least 1 adult ticket to a 2019-20 Atlanta Hawks regular season game

Hat Trick for Reading

Deadline September 30, 2019

K-12 Students will read three books and then have their parents register their participation securely online at the Hat Trick for Reading website. Students earn a free ticket with the purchase of one adult discounted premium level ticket.

The 2020 PTA Reflections contest is under way! This year's theme is Look Within. All students in kindergarten through fifth grade may enter in the following categories:

• dance choreography
• music composition
• film production
• literature
• photography
• visual arts

Applications and category rules may be picked up in the Media Center or at the BES Front Desk. Entries are due on October 2nd.

The Gwinnett Lacrosse League is offering a Fall League for boys and girls. The Brookwood Lacrosse Association is excited to participate this season and offer the chance for boys in 2nd - 5th grade and girls in 4th and 5th grade to improve their stick and game skills. Brookwood Basketball Association (BBA) discounted registration is now open for the Winter 2019-2020 Season. Discounted registration is open through September 21st. After September 21st there will be a late fee of $30 added to the registration fee. Registration ends on Saturday, September 28th. Practices begin Tuesday, October 15th.
