Reminders
- Teachers, please remember to leave instructions for your substitute on how to complete attendance. Leaving them a class roster is very helpful.
- Please make sure students are not putting liquids in your classroom trash cans. The county trash bags are extremely thin and if the bag rips, it makes a big mess for our custodial team. Have students dump any liquids in the sink before throwing the container away.
Superintendent Dr. Taylor Visits
WCPSS Superintendent, Dr. Taylor, will continue visiting schools throughout WCPSS. He has finished visiting schools on the eastern half of the county, and we can expect him to make his way west in the coming weeks. Dr. Taylor has made is clear that the bullets below are a few of his non-negotiables that he looks for when visiting classrooms:
- Clear Learning Targets: It's crucial that we clearly articulate the learning objectives for each lesson. If these targets are not already posted, let's begin transitioning to doing so. This will provide students with a clear understanding of what they are expected to learn. *If you are not posting these already, please make sure you are beginning to post learning targets that match the instruction taking place during your lesson
- Essential Questions: Essential questions based on our learning targets help guide student inquiry and deepen their understanding of the material. Let's ensure that our lessons include thought-provoking questions that stimulate critical thinking and exploration.
- Summarizing Strategies: Incorporating summarizing strategies, such as teacher summaries at the beginning or end of lessons, helps reinforce key concepts and facilitate retention. Let's make it a habit to incorporate these strategies into our lesson plans.
- 21st Century Learning Environment: Our focus should be on creating a 21st-century learning environment that goes beyond simply using technology. Let's prioritize teaching strategies that foster collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- High Student Engagement: True engagement goes beyond mere compliance. Let's strive to create lessons that actively engage students in the learning process, fostering their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
- Bell-to-Bell Teaching: Maximizing instructional time is essential for student achievement. Let's ensure that our teaching is focused and purposeful, with meaningful learning activities from the moment the bell rings to the end of the lesson.
As we pursue excellence in our teaching methods, it's essential to emphasize the integration of these approaches within our classrooms and lesson plans. Alongside high-impact teaching strategies such as differentiated instruction, formative assessment, cooperative learning, feedback, and metacognitive strategies, these practices have demonstrated their ability to improve student learning and engagement.
By utilizing these practices and strategies effectively, we can create dynamic and inclusive learning environments that cater to the diverse needs of our students while maximizing their potential for success.

Employee Transfer Period Moved Up This Year
Teachers, instructional assistants, and clerical staff who wish to transfer for the 2024-25 school year can apply for a position at a different school within the county beginning February 10th. To access more information on the employee transfer process and to access the Employee Transfer Request Form, please click here. Items of note can also be found below.
- The transfer request period opens on Feb. 10, 2024 at 8 a.m. and closes on May 10, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
