Day 1- Coronavirus
Teacher and Student Support
What?!
I am going to send you an activity each day that your students can do. We will hopefully get it on the Excelsior webpage and you are welcome to send it to students in your week update. This is for Monday but I am sending it to you today. I am also compiling a list of resources as well. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you need help with anything!
I Survived Project and links!
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea! We are definitely experiencing something never experienced before. If kids want to share their entries I am happy to compile it into a book we could keep in the library forever!!!
Here is where the idea came from- this was posted on Facebook

My 6th students are creating their very own “I Survived the Coronavirus Pandemic” digital books so I can be sure that they are journaling each and everyday about their personal experience. I love reading their work as they strive to put their experiences into words. These days quarantined at home are indeed historical. Our children may not understand this now, but they are living through a moment in history that will one day be captured in history books. It is so important that we don't let these days and events pass without capturing how they affect us, our family, our school, and our community. I hope that by requiring my students to document their personal accounts, they will one day be able to share stories with their children and grandchildren about living through this time. I am also writing my own “I Survived the Coronavirus Pandemic” book alongside my students and I am sharing it with them as we go. I can't stop. My oldest daughter found an old journal and has been writing each day too. I am currently working on my son.Are you writing about this unprecedented time in our history?”
So, as of today, I will be writing my own journal entries! Will you?
Also, Lauren Tarshis, the author of the “I Survived” book series has been reading her books and sharing them for everyone to use. Here are the links. Please share with your students!
