GT FOOD TRUCK PROJECT
Ms. Hoskinsâ 6th graders recently wrapped up a major writing project called âFood Truck Face-Off!â With the tasks of coming up with an original idea for a truck, designing a logo, having a USP, planning a menu with competitive pricing while keeping profit in mind, marketing strategies, as well as determining the location and hours for their business, students had to convince a mysterious investor to invest in the start up of their business.
One major component of this project was to prepare for a mini food truck festival in which staff members visited studentsâ trucks to hear about each business and taste a sample item from the menu. The following week, students made their pitch presentations to the mystery investor in hopes of striking a deal. This yearâs trucks included: Sweet Crumbs, Mammoth Burritos, Taco Dulce, and Cha Cha Cheese!
Students had fun with the friendly competition while learning about some of the behind the scenes challenges of entrepreneurship. A job well done by all!
OUR STEM CITY
WCS had strong representation at the RSU 1 STEM City event last night. Students were able to experiment with different technology that is being used throughout our community in a variety of businesses. It was nice to gather together to appreciate how important (and FUN) STEM can be!

SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
- The results are in for Chickadee and Maine Student Book Award programs! Our 4th-8th grade students had the opportunity to read 3 MSBA books and vote...over 80 students cast a vote. The official MSBA winner is Alone by Megan Freeman; kids at WCS love the book, and it missed the 1st place at WCS by only 1 vote! Our K-3 students listened to 10 different picture books and voted for their favorite. It was a close race with Negative Cat by Sophie Backall winning at WCS. The official Chickadee Book Award winner is Chez Bob by Bob Shea which was the WCS runner up. Ask your own child which book they loved the best!
- This week the third graders held a Dance-A-Thon fundraiser to help pay for next year's swim lessons. Third graders participate in these lessons each year at the YMCA. Learning to swim gives kids confidence in the water and the knowledge of water safety basics- important skills to have in a state with over 3,500 miles of coastline!
This is the place to get all your WCS-branded clothing and accessories.
