CELEBRATIONS!
Great things are happening at WCS!
This week we celebrated Read Across America week through several days of festivities. On Wednesday, people wore clothing with a the name of a destination printed on it to recognize that "Reading Takes you Anywhere!" On Thursday the whole school participated in DEAR (Drop Everything And Read.) At specific times throughout the day, we were prompted to drop everything and read for 5-10 minutes as a school. On Friday grades Pre-K - 5 participated in "flashlight reading" where students were encouraged to grab their favorite book and read by...you guessed it: flashlight. The middle school did "coffee house" reading" and were treated to hot cocoa & tea while periods of relaxing music played over the intercom. What fun ways to enjoy reading together!!
MHS 8th GRADE VISIT
This week guidance counselors from Morse High School stopped by to meet with our 8th graders to discuss the transition to High School. They brought coursebooks for students to review and answered questions while they were here!

STUDENT LIMERICK CONTEST
PTA NEWS
We are very excited to have shown the kids our third annual Masked Reader videos this week during Read Across America! Videos of Woolwich staff reading in some fun disguises were played during lunches this week, and next week students will have a chance to guess who was behind each mask! Elementary students will guess during their weekly library class, and middle school students will vote via Google Form. It's a tough one this year- we can't wait to see everyone's guesses!
The PTA will host our monthly meeting on March 8th at 6 PM in the WCS library. We would love to see you there!
HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS
Water is a resource we have at our fingertips to keep us healthy, and yet most of us do not have an adequate water intake. Harvard Health and the National Academy of Medicine suggest we need to take in 13 cups, (yes a cup being 8 ounces) per day. We used to say 8 glasses a day, but as we have learned more about the many functions water has in keeping us healthy this amount has increased. The functions of water in the body range from regulating and maintaining temperature, moistening tissues in eyes, nose and mouth, (remember those chapped lips?) Water protects the body's internal organs, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, aids in digestion and helps prevent constipation. While this is not every function of water, you get the point. In our school we have wonderful bottle filling stations that work for all types of water bottles. Ask your student how much water they have taken in today, and they may surprise you. ~Roberta Sherwood, R.N., B.S.N., M.Ed
