Teacher Appreciation Week
What a beautiful weekend we just enjoyed! It was so great to see the brilliant sunshine and warm temperatures after such a long winter! Each year, it is during this week that teachers are “honored” for their efforts. At Oak Grove, we choose to include all faculty and staff to recognize this week.
There is simply no way that the administration, the students, the parents, and all others in our community can properly say “thank you” for all that our teachers and support staff does each and every day for our students. They are the “heart and soul” of our building.
If you can find a moment this week, please take it and send a quick note, an e-mail, or say “thank you” to our wonderful faculty and staff. They are simply the very best in the state.
We honor them this week and hope that their week is filled with pride and satisfaction for the work they do on behalf of our students.

Curriculum Corner - "TAG Placement Appeal "
This week, we have an important reminder to share with you:
May 14th for TAG Placement Appeal Information
As part of our Talented And Gifted (TAG) placement procedures, parents have the right to request an additional review of student placement into Oak Grove’s TAG program through a placement appeal, reviewed by the Advisory Council. This process is discussed on pages 11 and 12 of the TAG Handbook.
If you are interested in pursuing a placement appeal*, the Parent Inquiry Form must be completed and emailed to Sarah Cacciatore at cacciatore@ogschool.org no later than May 14th for consideration at the spring Advisory Council meeting. This form is located on the TAG section of the website. Parents will be notified via email regarding the final committee decisions.
*Please note, appeal process may only be utilized once a calendar year.
Student Council News
Get ready for some end-of-the-year fun! All 5th-8th grade students are invited to participate in Final Fridays, a fun dress up event for the month of May. Help Student Council count down our last four Fridays of the school year. Remember, all dress up items must follow school rules and remain appropriate.
Here is the "dress up" schedule for our remaining month of school:
- Friday, May 4 - Mismatched Madness: We dare you to be as much of a fashion disaster as you can be!
- Friday, May 11- Twins, Triplets, Quadruplets: Get with your friends and plan your outfits. The more, the merrier!
- Friday, May 18 (field day and early release) - School Spirit: Celebrate competition and Oak Grove with your Eagle spirit wear!
- Friday, May 25 - PJ Day: Wear your favorite PJ's for a relaxing day. After all, it is our last Friday of the school year.
Multicultural Event a HIT!
Last Thursday, May 3rd, Oak Grove hosted its first multicultural night. Families shared foods, dances, trivia and clothing from their heritages. A sincere thank you to all the families who participated and attended the event. It was a wonderful chance to experience what makes Oak Grove a unique and welcoming place to be. Special thanks to Raabia Khan and Elizabeth O'Neill for all their work in coordinating volunteers and presenters. Thank you also to Aman Muhammed, an incredible student who volunteered his entire evening to assist with set-up and running the event. Finally, thank you to Susie Kiefer, whose vision became a reality in the best possible way.
Student quotes from the night:
"I felt like I was able to be part of each culture."
"I have been to Malaysia and the food was better here!"
"Sushi can be so expensive, but this was better than any restaurant I've ever had and FREE."

SCHOOL OF ROCK ASSEMBLY
School of Rock literally ROCKED OGS last week!
Our own Mr. Farris helped us bring a personalized grade level presentation from our neighboring School of Rock just around the corner.
Last week Kindergarten through 4th grade enjoyed a live rock concert!
John, Austin & Ryan, not only gave us their personal rock n roll history, they taught us a bit about the sound of each instrument & the difference between
various guitars.
The fun really started when they pulled fellow classmates up on stage to share their hidden talents.
Teacher trivia was a crowd pleaser. It was fun to see students & teachers alike truly “rocking out”!
No one had more fun than our own third graders who really know how to Rock & Roll!
Watch out parents. Your children may be asking to become real rockers or maybe just attend a rock concert?
Mr. Jones may have more band members next year than he ever wanted!
All good stuff!
Thank you, Mr. Farris & the OGS PTO!

Here’s a sample letter to get you started. TeacherForm.pdf. We all know Oak Grove has some of the best teachers! The PTO has some special treats planned for them all week to show how much we appreciate them.

Dear 8th Grade Parents,
Spring is here and our 8th graders are enjoying their last few weeks at Oak Grove. It is an exciting time as they look forward to high school and reflect on fond memories and friendships at OGS. 8th grade families should have received a letter in the mail last week explaining the details and expectations for the much anticipated 8th grade dance. The dance will be held on Friday, May 25 from 7:00-10:00 pm. We are in need of LOTS of volunteers to help with set up and clean up that day. Please sign up through this link to Sign Up Genius. Volunteer Here! We appreciate all the support you have given to OGS over the years! We couldn't do it without wonderful volunteers like YOU!
