We are the MIDDLE
WMS Demons
From the Office of Mrs. Kennedy
Be your best.
Do your best.
Grow even better.
About a week ago, I was talking to one of our middle school students. She was talking about how bad the day was going to be. Me being...me was trying to encourage her to try look at the day in a more positive light. Near the end of our conversation, she said, "Can it be an ok day?"
This conversation reminded me that no one or thing is perfect, even our days. Yes, of course, it is ok for a day to be ok. If all we experience are incredible moments, we can't really appreciate them because that is all we know.
This brought me back to our motto for the year: Be your best. Do your best. Grow even better. We are not perfect and will never be. We should always try out best. Our best on one day might not be the same on another. We should always try to grow even better.

Monday, May 8th, begins Teacher Appreciation Week at Washington Middle School and nationwide. Our teachers are pretty amazing. WMS is so fortunate to have such a caring and dedicated staff.
I am sure as you read this, you can think back to a time when a teacher(s) positively impacted you as an individual. A moment you'll never forget. I remember my sixth-grade reading teacher. Mrs. Kildren was the first teacher who was able to help me see myself as a reader. She helped me believe in me.
Being an educator is so complex. Educators teach more than content. They work every day to teach the whole child. Our WMS teachers are very passionate about our students and their success. They work tirelessly to meet the needs of our students. Thank you for showing appreciation to our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week and every week.
At Washington Middle School, we appreciate all our staff during this week! Without everyone, we would not be able to care for and meet the needs of our students. Thank you to all of our staff members!

New(er) WMS Morning Drop-Off Procedures
Our morning drop-off procedures have improved since they were introduced at the beginning of April. I know that changes in routine are hard. I appreciate all the efforts so many of you have made to put the safety of others first.
Here is information and map of the changes. If someone other than you drops your child off, please share this information with them.

From the Desk of Mr. Swanson
I have been thinking a lot about the joy that comes from a job well done. There is something to that sense of accomplishment that comes from looking at something you’ve crafted through your own hard work. Something about the sweat exerted in reaching a goal causes it to have so much more value.
As a football coach, we referred to sweat equity a lot. Sweat equity is the payoff you receive during games from the effort you put forth in practice. Those times which are the hardest, also pay off the most when a game is on the line. It is the team that sweats the most in practice and puts in the most work during practice that is able to hold true during the fourth quarter and close things out.
We are now in the fourth quarter. The game is still on the line. This is crunch time. Allow all of that work that you’ve put in during the year to propel you toward a strong finish. Don’t quit just when victory is within your grasp. Finish strong and head out those doors victorious! You are all champions meant to conquer the world. Go out there and prove it!
