Spring Session 2022
Diverse options - Online Store - Decodable Books
Spring into 2022
What a rocking start to 2022. We are striding into this year with a new batch of students and some graduates as well! Welcome to our new families and congratulations to our graduate, which will be named below.
We have a fresh new website and online store which are now up and running. My hope is that our online store will create an accessible avenue for families to access the highest quality stationary and neurodiverse aids for daily life. There will also be decodable books available for purchase. As many families have found out, It is very difficult to find decodable books in bookstores or libraries around Canada. My hope is by having them available to families more of our budding readers will be able to access books that pace their learning journeys.
This past month some very monumental history has been made by the release of the Ontario Human Rights Commission Right to Read report. There have been big waves felt and many families lived experiences validated by the findings, my own included as a Dyslexic and educator. There are webinars and symposiums being held to help deconstruct the report. Many of them are recorded and posted at the IDAOntario website. I encourage families to watch or listen to them as they are very well done and only help to improve our understanding of children's or our own learning. These recordings are also very helpful when approaching administration or the special education teams that help our students. A link here will take you to the report.
In-class sessions are in full swing and our Spring Session is about to start running from March 28-June 11. I am excited to announce that I am fully Booked for Spring Session!! Thank you to everyone who has spread the word, as a small business owner is means the world that more students are able to unlock the key to reading.
Some future plans:
With such a full roster the next phase is to open a second English language classroom, with the hopes of a third French language classroom in the new school year. Fingers crossed! As I do not have a pulse on the French Immersion teachers in this region, any families who have connections that might be interested in learning about structured literacy in French please share my information with them, good connections make great teachers!
Congratulations to our graduate:
Leo W. from Thunder Bay, Ontario for completing the R+ program and unlocking the key to reading. Well done, I am so proud of all your hard work online and in-person during the COVID lockdowns. Your courage, determination and preserving spirit is a something to behold. Great Work Leo!
Thank you for everyones continued support and commitment to literacy. I can not wait to see what is in store for the summer.
Warmly,
Julia and fuzzy assistants; Lily, Lady, and Lil' Man

Quill + Laurel Student Supply Store Now Online
Decodable Books Now Available Online through Quill + Laurel! (April 2022 onward)
I am a big advocate for their decodable reader series and use their books in our lessons. They have beautiful art and enticing stories that students love. Because they are decodable, cumulative, and mirror students scopes and sequences students find confidence in reading these books. Their catch up readers are great for ages 8-14+ and their early readers are excellent for students learning the alphabetic code and short vowel sounds.
As many of our families have expressed, once your child find success in reading at their level they start burning through books. Now we will have to opportunity to provide more than one story for them to read through at the clinic or at your home library.
I will be sending along a catalog for any families interested via email, please message me. As an alternative option, there is a digital catalog on their website with descriptions. Please note prices are in British Pounds or US dollars. If you would like to place an order with me for a set of books please let me know. Naturally Literate's Online store Quill + Laurel will have CAN prices up in the next week.
One more step in creating local accessibility to our emerging readers!
