PRINCIPAL UPDATE
To help us plan for the future, we would appreciate it if you would take a moment to provide us with some feedback about your Back to School Night experience: Back to School Night 2023 Family Survey. If you have already completed the survey, Thank you ππ
Safety Officer Frassica and Officer Piantedosi conducted Bus Evacuation drills with students in K-5 yesterday. They reviewed the rules of the bus, bus safety and then practiced evacuating the buses. Be sure to ask your child about these drills.
All staff participated in ALICE training with Officer Piantedosi on Wednesday. For those not familiar, ALICE is a widely adopted method of response training to prepare staff and students in the event of an emergency. There have been some updates to ALICE and these include getting out of the building if at all possible, and if locking down is the safer option, then spreading out rather than huddling together. The Waltham Police Department is in the process of putting together a document to share with families regarding ALICE. Once we receive this document, we will share it with you. Over the course of the school year, we will have two ALICE drills. One will be announced (and we will inform families ahead of time) and the other will be unannounced. Officer Piantedosi will visit all classrooms prior to the drills to prepare students with grade level appropriate language and books. Stay tuned for more details.
Parking around the school:
If you are parking on Doty Street or Warwick Avenue to visit the school for a meeting or pick up your child from school, please do not park in a way that you are blocking a driveway and please do not turn around in any driveway. We have had some complaints from neighbors about these things happening. We are asking that you are respectful of the school's neighbors. Thank you!

NO CELL PHONES OR SMART WATCHES ALLOWED AT SCHOOL
We continue to see students with Smart Watches and Cell Phones. Cell Phones and Smart Watches are not allowed in elementary school. On Page 18 of the 2023-2024 Waltham Public Schools Elementary School Handbook, it states:
"Students are not permitted to bring video games or similar equipment to school. If students bring cell phones, smart watches, or any other communication device, they are to remain turned off and placed in their backpack before leaving the house and remain there during the school day, riding the bus to and from school, and at all times on school property. The first such offense will lead to confiscation of the equipment for the day. Repeat offenses may lead to confiscation until the end of the school year."
Thank you for your cooperation!
