MST Weekly Update
April 7, 2023

Today is the first day of the 4th quarter of the school year. The next 8 1/2 school weeks will go by very quickly as the end of the year gets very busy with activities such as prom, awards nights, etc.
It is also the point in the year when students should be on track in their classes. Those who are significantly behind will have to work especially hard to be caught up by the last day of school (6/15). Letters went out earlier this week to the parents of any senior who is significantly behind in one or more classes required for graduation. Another mailing will be sent out in early May for any senior who is still significantly behind pace. The district policy has been that a student cannot participate in the graduation ceremony if they have not met all of their graduation requirements. Of course, we want every MST student who is eligible to graduate to be at the graduation ceremony on June 17th.
The schedule has been set for summer competency recovery (see below). As we get towards the end of May/beginning of June, parents will be informed if their child needs to attend some days of competency recovery in order to finish a class.
Enjoy your weekend and let's all look forward to the spring weather predicted for next week!
Starting Young in Carpentry
Students in Mr. Lawlor's Residential Carpentry class have taken on a project of building picnic tables and benches for the playground area at Weston School. As part of the project, four groups of students from Weston School visited MST this week to do some hands-on construction of the tables under the guidance of Mr. Lawlor and his students. Four more groups will be visiting the week of April 17th.
Thanks to the Residential Carpentry program for making this happen!
MST's "Shark Tank"
Second-year Business students, Brian Baumgardner, Khizer Hayat and Alexis Gregory, presented on Wednesday at Manchester School of Technology's first "Shark Tank" event. The students pitched to an audience of their peers as well as Julie Glosner and Andrea O'Brien of the Small Business Development Center, David Peterson of Merrimack County Savings Bank, Marlana Trombley of Orbit Group, and MST teacher Joe Bowe.
Great work students, and thanks to teacher Michelle Strout for coordinating.
NHJAG to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard
Students in Ms. King's NH Jobs for America's Graduates (NHJAG) class, plus some CTE and freshman Discovery students, took a field trip to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard this week. While at the shipyard, the students were able to take a tour of the facility, learn about jobs available at the shipyard and participate in various hands-on activities related to the work being done there. One demonstration of a 5-axis computer operated milling machine produced a beautiful, engraved sign with the MST logo (shown), which they all signed.
