CELEBRATIONS!
Great things are happening at WCS!
On Friday we unveiled our new Woolwich Central School Wildcat mascot at the Trimester Assembly. Students got to vote on his name and the winning entry was "Scratch." Scratch came to us with help from the PTA and we are so excited to welcome him to WCS! Be on the lookout for future mascot-sightings at sporting events, and other school activities.
HOLIDAY TRIVIA
‘Tis the season….for Holiday Trivia! We have been quizzing our students on their knowledge of popular holiday literature. They have had fun answering trivia questions that are asked over the announcements every morning, and a winner has been selected each day. Ms. Luchies gets to spread some holiday joy by gifting the winners with their own book!
WINTER BREAK 12/22-1/2
PTA LOVE ❤️
This week the WCS PTA treated staff to a make-your-own trail mix bar in the staff room! Chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, and m&m's ensured that the trail lead to HAPPINESS! Thank you to the PTA for supporting our teachers!
WCS TREE LIGHTING
On Tuesday the WCS PTA hosted the annual Winter Tree Lighting at school. Families braved the cold to gather together with friends and enjoy cocoa, cookies and carols (lead by Mrs. Joray and the middle school chorus!) We were also treated to a visit from Buddy Libby the Elf, who lead the countdown, and lit up the trees! What a fun event!
TRIMESTER 1 ASSEMBLY
On Friday we held our First Trimester Assembly where we recognized students who earned Woolwich Way awards in the following categories: Above & Beyond, Woolwich Way, Care & Concern, and Strong Effort. Middle School students were recognized for receiving their WCS Letter and for making Honor Roll for Habits of Work. We are so proud of all of our students- both those who were awarded, and those who cheered on their peers.
LINES FROM THE LIBRARY
Wondering what would make a great gift this holiday season? A book, of course! A book is a gift that kids and adults can enjoy again and again. If you're not sure what book to buy, there are several resources to assist you. The great staff at the Mockingbird Bookshop in Bath is very knowledgeable about popular titles and new releases. Or check out these online resources to find out what's hot!
The New York Times bestseller list
School Library Journal’s Best of 2022 list
There are many wonderful holiday stories that children love to share, and you can find them at your local bookstore. Happy holidays and HAPPY READING!
JANUARY MENUS
Remember: You can always find school menus on the WCS website under "Monthly Menus"
SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
Overdue notices for late library books have been printed. Please check with your student to see if they have anything overdue; it would be wonderful if those late items are returned to the library before we go on holiday break next week. Thanks for your help!
We held our first lock down drill on Monday and it went well. While these drills are mandatory, it is truly beneficial for students and staff to get the chance to practice our safety protocols together.
The race continues for the Purple Penny! The Pocket Change for Charity event supports local families in need. The classroom that raises the most amount of money will get to display the giant penny in their classroom. Donations will be collected through 12/21 and the winning classroom will be announced when we return from vacation. There is still time to change the results!! The current standings are: 3rd Place: Ms. Jerome's 6th grade class with $18.73
2nd Place: Mr. Harrington's 6th grade class with $ 43.50
1st Place: Mr. Huston's 7th grade class with $59.59
This is the place to get all your WCS-branded clothing and accessories.
