Roos New Head Football Coach
Weatherford ISD school board members unanimously hired Billy Mathis, as the new Head Football Coach and Assistant Athletic Director for the Weatherford High School Kangaroos in a Special Meeting on January 28, 2017 held in the District Services Building Boardroom. Coach Mathis is currently the defensive coordinator for Aledo High School.
“We are very pleased to announce Billy Mathis as Weatherford High School’s head football coach,” WISD Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Hanks said. “Coach Mathis is excited to be a part of our Kangaroo family and is committed to building a winning program.”
“Coach Mathis has been a life-long resident of Parker County and is committed to developing a championship football program at the high school and middle school levels,” WISD Executive Director of Athletics Richard Scoggin said. “His experience will help us take our football program to the next level.”
Coach Mathis was the defensive coordinator for Aledo’s state championship football teams in 2013, 2014, and 2016.
In the coming weeks, Coach Mathis will be visiting with coaches and students to prepare for the spring season.

Dollars and Sense class will be taking a field trip to the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing facility on February 28th. Students will receive a hands-on experience walking though the exhibit to learn about U.S. currency and will see where billions of dollars are made.

Cheerleading try-outs are coming up on March 10th!
If you are interested in trying out for cheerleader, mascot, cheer manager, or cheer guard , then see either Ms. Shedlock in room H211 or Ms. Briggs in room K108. There will also be some try-out packets in the front office!

Attention Seniors – Scholarship season is here! Did you know that last year’s senior class was awarded over $3.5 million dollars in scholarships? Let’s make this year the best year ever for scholarship awards. Many scholarships have deadlines coming up right away. Scholarships are available for all students who have a desire to attend college. Go to the Counseling Office often to get the latest information on scholarships and pick up applications.
The Zonta Club of Parker County offers scholarships to deserving High School and college students who reside in Parker County. Please share this opportunity as well as the opportunity to apply for Zonta International scholarships with your eligible students. The deadline for applications for the local scholarship is March 1, 2016. Information on the scholarships and the application process can be found online athttp://www.zontaparkercounty.org or in the attached a brochure that may be copied and distributed to eligible students.
