Superintendent's Update
Hello Cadet Nation!
I am excited to report that 17 Connally Junior High students earned a medal at our District 23-4A Academic UIL competition! This is a great improvement from previous years. They will continue the academic competition this Saturday at the One Act Play competition in China Spring. Our students will be presenting 10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse. The plays are scheduled to start at 11:00, and our production is scheduled third in the line-up. If you are interested in cheering them on, please plan to arrive by 12:30. This is the first time our junior high students have participated in One Act Play since 2019!
Our high school boys' and girls' basketball teams will play at home on Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday, they are taking on the China Spring Cougars, and on Friday, they will play the Salado Eagles. This Friday is also Senior Night for our varsity girls, as this is the last home game of the season for them.
The School Health Advisory Committee will have their regular meeting on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. in the administration board room. At 4:45 p.m., the committee will preview the abstinence-focused human sexuality curriculum for recommendation to the Board in the February school board meeting. The curriculum being reviewed is the Living Well Aware Adolescent Wellness Program. If the SHAC and the Board approve the curriculum, it will be taught to junior high and high school students who have acquired parental permission. All parents and guardians are invited to attend the curriculum preview. If you have questions about the meeting or the curriculum, please contact CISD district nurse Pam White at pwhite@connally.org.
Tonight at 6:30 p.m. is the regular January CISD school board meeting. We will recognize students on the month for the CECC and CHS campuses. We will also recognize our varsity football team and individual team members' accolades, CISD law enforcement, the Air Force ROTC unit, and school board members for school board appreciation month.
If you want to run for a seat on the school board, applications are now available at the CISD administration building. The application submission deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024. If you have any questions about the application or election process, please contact Rebekah Els at rels@connally.org.
Have a wonderful week!
