WRMS Weekly Update

Monday, February 3rd marks the beginning of the third quarter and second semester. Please print out a new version of your child's schedule or have them see their counselor to help them navigate the switch.

On Wednesday, students and staff will engage in the Global School Day of Play. Students are encouraged to bring in school appropriate games to play with their classmates and teachers. No chromebooks will be distributed and no electronic games will be permitted, this is a day to truly unplug!

WWPD has reached out to us regarding a few incidents around the state which resulted in injuries and fatalities as a result of people falling into bodies of water which were iced over. Please remind your children about the dangers of walking onto what is perceived to be frozen bodies of water in hopes that we can avoid a similar tragedy. Thank you so much.

There's a new challenge on TikTok. Teens are "trying to recreate a stunt that involves partially inserting a cell phone charger into an outlet and then sliding a penny down the wall onto the plug’s exposed prongs. The result is sparks, electrical system damage, and in some cases fire.” Here's a brief article from Time Magazine for your interest.

We have concluded our formal presentations regarding the upcoming middle school transition, but still welcome your feedback. Here is the presentation with updated responses to FAQs.

We'd love your feedback! Please take ~15 minutes of your time to complete an online survey that will help us improve your child’s school. We have asked YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the country – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf.

You should have received an email with a link to the survey. Please take the survey before it closes at midnight tonight!

Please note:

• The survey needs to be completed in one sitting.
• We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
• If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.
• If you write any comments, please do not include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.

We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly valuable to us.

One Monday and Tuesday, with the beginning of the 3rd marking period, students will have access to their own Genesis accounts. We know many students have access to their parent's account, but now their username and password will be their own, allowing parents to maintain a confidential password of their own. We hope that their access will encourage continued growth in academic responsibility, independence, and accountability.

Box Tops!

Download the new Box Tops app and keep earning for our school! Box Tops is in the process of going digital. While you will be able to clip and send them in the traditional way while products remain on store shelves, earning 10 cents for the school with each Box Top you send in (and these really add up!), we will be shifting toward individual online submission and an all-school goal. Please download the app at the Apple App Store or on Google Play to participate. Anytime you purchase items featuring the new Box Tops label, you’ll simply need to scan your receipt and all such items will be recorded—with just one scan. Scanning these receipts also gets us entered in contests that win bonus Box Tops for our school!

The Westwood Regional Summer Enrichment Program provides our students with a safe, fun, and supportive atmosphere where every student explores new challenges and educational experiences. Our program is driven by appreciating the individual interests and abilities of each student. Our course offerings are built upon encouraging personal power and self-esteem while focusing upon bringing out the inventor and engineer in every child. Please consider joining us for our summer enrichment program, LEAD with STEAM 2020: Building Leaders with Excellence, Accountability, and Drive. Please see the flyer for more information.

Members of Girl Scout Troop 5279, are raising donations for an animal rescue, Peace 4 Paws. A donation box will be in the lobby through the end of February. Please see their flyer for more information.

Yearbooks are on sale early this year! Yearbooks are $25. To purchase, log on to the secure website YearbookOrderCenter.com.

• The order number is: 4511
• Confirm that you have selected Westwood Regional Middle School.
• Choose "Buy a Yearbook, Yearbook Packages" on the left side of the screen.
• After you put a yearbook in the cart it will ask you to "find a student". Enter your child's name and hit the search box. Once it comes up that the name can't be found click on "add your student". This will generate a list of who ordered a yearbook for distribution time.
