HAPPENINGS
US News & World Report
Did you hear the news? FAST has ranked #1 among all elementary charter schools in Georgia and #2 among charter middle schools in the state! This recognition is based on test performance and how well our students are prepared for high school. As a fairly new school, we are incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to many more years of outstanding performance.
Preparing for 2024-25
While the school year is only half over, we are actively planning for next year. We are now accepting applications for the 2024-25 school year. All applications received by February 9, will be eligible for the lottery which will occur on February 16. Applications received after February 9 will be added to the waitlist in the order in which they are received. If you know anyone who is interested in attending FAST, please let then know that they may apply now. Tours are scheduled through March for prospective families who would like to visit the school.
If you have not already responded to the Intent to Return Survey, we ask that you do so as soon as possible. You only need to complete this once, but it is important for us to understand how many seats we have to offer in the lottery.
ALL siblings who do not currently attend FAST this year but would like to attend FAST next year MUST apply for the lottery. Siblings are not guaranteed a spot at FAST and must enter the lottery in the event that we have more siblings than available seats. We will attempt to ensure that all families with a sibling who will enter FAST next year follow the process correctly, but it is up to the parents to enter their child in the lottery. Currently enrolled students DO NOT need to enter the lottery.
If you have questions about the re-enrollment process or the lottery, please reach out to Marie Emerson at marie.emerson@fastk8.org. She will be happy to answer your questions or to ensure you followed the process correctly.
Enrichment Clubs
After school enrichment clubs for second semester are now posted on the FAST website. Options include art, marine biology, chess and more. This semester brings us a new club - Purposeful Play Tinkergarten. You can find more information about each club including start and end dates, cost, and how to sign up by visiting http://www.fastk8.org/after-school-vendor-clubs/
School Arrival
Birds of Prey Assembly
On January 24, students will be treated to a special assembly thanks to Wild Birds Unlimited of Alpharetta. We can't wait to see how our students react to seeing birds like bald eagles flying over their heads in Innovation Hall. We greatly appreciate business sponsors like this who can provide such unique opportunities for our students.
NEWS FROM THE PTO
Library Volunteers Needed!
Library Volunteers are also needed. Please email library@fastk8.org if you would like to be added to the library volunteer email list.
REMINDERS
Cold and Flu Season
With cold and flu season upon us, please help us prevent the spread off illness throughout the school by keeping your student home if they are not feeling well. You can refer to this graphic or contact the school nurse at victoria.murray@fastk8.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Cold Weather Wear
Please keep in mind that our students have outdoor PE and recess everyday unless it is raining or below freezing. It is important that you are sending your student to school with the appropriate attire for the weather (i.e. pants and jackets). We understand that some students prefer wearing shorts every day, but it may not be the best choice when the temperatures begin to plummet.
School Hours
Uniforms
All students are expected to be in proper uniform every day. Repeat violations of uniform code will result in a call from the front office with a request to bring the appropriate clothing for the student. FAST uniform includes FAST logo polo or spirit wear, khaki or navy bottoms (or black for middle school). Shirts without the FAST logo are not considered proper uniform.
School Communication
All questions or concerns you have regarding your student should first be directed to their teacher. Please allow up to 48 hours for a response. If the teacher is unable to provide resolution, you should contact the Assistant Principal for your child's grade. On the off chance that you still have not been able to reach a resolution after contacting the teacher and the AP, you can contact Principal Mary Miller at mary.miller@fastk8.org. Our communication and escalation policy can be found on our website.
While under the auspices of Fulton County Schools, we are governed by our own governing board. Sending your issues directly to Fulton County rather than following the FAST communication chain will cause a delayed response as they will only defer to FAST and forward the issue back to us to address.
