Student Spotlight
Greetings from Greta!
When landing on a college, I initially considered MSU for my college journey, but after a campus tour and engaging with professors at USM, the decision was clear – USM was the perfect fit for me.
I have always been passionate about writing, leaning towards creative writing and English. Eventually, I landed on journalism, driven by the desire to make a meaningful impact with my skill set. This helped me when choosing my major.
Within my major in Communication Media, I have found the interactive and project-focused nature of the classes to be a highlight. I also appreciate how The School of Media and Communication has provided me with a platform to connect with fellow students and carve out my space within the academic environment.
One standout experience at USM was my month-long study abroad program in London. As someone who was homeschooled and lived at home, this opportunity forced me to rely on myself, fostering personal growth and resilience. The fact that I earned credit hours while being able to experience this growth was an added bonus!
On campus, I'm actively involved as the Vice President of the USM Debate team. I have also contributed to the Student Media Center.
Dr. Davies and other professors have played a pivotal role in preparing me for my future career. Emphasis on building portfolios, crafting news-style stories, and dedicated workshop days for resume preparation have been instrumental. The Media and Broadcasting program, with insights from industry professionals, has provided valuable perspectives and networking opportunities.
I'm excited about the journey ahead and grateful for the supportive and enriching environment at USM. Cheers to growth, learning, and the adventures that lie ahead!
