The B.Y.E. Buzz
Week of January 25
Principal Corner
We had another great week, and we are ready for our last week of January! Remind your child that reading is super important and we should be reading multiple nights a week.
School picture day is Friday, January 29th. Lifetouch is not taking class pictures this year. All students that are present on Friday will get their individual pictures made. See pre-purchasing information below. Young Elementary is given a portion of profits from purchased pictures.
We need your help! Please remind students to wear a mask to school. We have extra in the office but the little ones are slowly diminishing. It could help to add extra masks to your child's backpack. Thanks so much!
We will be having Valentine's Day Parties on February 12th. Please see information regarding those below.
PTA News
Our next PTA meeting will be on February 9th- location TBD.
Covid Links
We work hard to protect all staff and students at BYE. Last semester we had 20 positive Covid cases. This is less than 1% of our Young family. We will continue following safety protocol this semester. If at any time your child is positive for Covid, please go to the site below and complete the form titled Student/Staff Covid 19 Positive. If your child has been exposed to Covid, please go to the site below and complete the form titled Student/Staff Covid 19 Household Exposure. The site is: sdale.org/covid
Thank you for your help with keeping us safe.
Notes from the Library
This is the last week for purchasing our January Maker Bag Kits! The kits have fun activities for students of all ages. Students may purchase them in the library before school OR purchase online using this link. Go to Young Elementary then January Maker Bag. You will have to create an account if you have not before.
January Notes from the Counselor
Counseling Lesson Theme: Being an Upstander
In classrooms this month, all grades have been talking about bullying and how to be an upstander.
Bullying is when someone is repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending him/herself. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.
There is usually an imbalance of power, meaning the person doing the bullying may be bigger, stronger, have more friends, or have authority over the person he/she is targeting.
Help your child be an Up-Stander!
Encourage your child to include as many kids as possible-invite those who may be alone
Practice with your child what they would say if they saw someone being bullied. Prepare them to say “Stop, that’s not okay, that’s not funny”
Teach them kindness, forgiveness, and tolerance- kids who bully deserve a chance to make changes
Set a good example by speaking up against intolerance in your own life and refusing to participate in gossip- send the message that any kind of bullying is not okay
Here is an online resource about Bullying
