UNC BUS TOUR COMES TO NORTHEAST COLORADO

A cooperative effort between Northeast BOCES and the University of Northern Colorado brought 15 junior and senior education students to Akron last Wednesday, March 22nd.

Students started the day at the Akron school with an opening event and then divided up for the day with teacher partners in Akron, Otis, Lone Star, Yuma, and Merino. The day concluded back in Akron with a closing event that included talks with Jessica Filla, Akron School Board President and Brian Christensen, Akron School Superintendent. The students also heard from the other area school district leaders in attendance. The purpose of this event was to expose the education students to rural schools in Northeast Colorado.

We want to thank Mrs. Tamara Durbin and her staff at our Northeast BOCES and Dr. Robert Fulton who is the state coordinator for the Colorado Center for Rural Education for organizing this wonderful event.

AKRON SCHOOL DISTRICT ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE AND SCHOOL BOARD

Last Tuesday, March 21st, the Akron School District Accountability Committee (DAC) held their March meeting during the work session of the Akron School Board meeting. The school board members were given the opportunity to see how the accountability committee has developed under Mrs. Kendra Anderson’s leadership, and how they operate in vetting ideas and in considering and making recommendations to the board.
The committee and board expressed the desire to continue this type of activity on an annual basis.

Akron Preschool Celebration of Learning

Our preschool students enjoyed an evening of celebration after their "Tubes and Tunnels" unit. They loved showing off their homemade robots and playing with their families in everything tubes and tunnels! Thank you Mrs. Blake and Ms. Christensen for hosting this special event!

Akron Seniors Attend Mock Interviews

Mrs. Weers accompanied the Akron seniors to NJC on Wednesday to participate in mock interviews. The students gained some valuable experience.

Middle School NJC Math & Science Contest

Several of our MS students attended the NJC Math & Science Contest on Tuesday in Sterling. Akron students earned seven of the twenty-one 1st - 3rd place awards announced to date.

The top three results were announced with more results to be announced at a later date.

Akron had the following placers:

Elijah Ewell - 1st place in 6th grade Critical Thinking

Micah Ardrey - 1st place in 6th grade Mathematics

Zach Bowin - 2nd place in 8th grade Critical Thinking & 2nd place in Algebra 1

Brigid Ardrey - 1st place in Algebra 1 and 2nd place in 8th grade Science

Zephon Wells - 3rd place in 6th grade Critical Thinking
