SBAC Results and Intervention
Last week families in grades 4-6 received SBAC scores from testing done in the spring of last year. Thinking about the school as a whole, the scores most definitely reflected the learning loss during the pandemic. The SBAC test was not adjusted to consider the learning loss during the pandemic, and it is not only a reflection of the current year, but the years prior.
Fall assessments are nearly completed and I will be meeting with teachers to review the past few years fall, winter and spring school assessments as well as the SBAC results of each learner. This will ensure that we have identified all in need of intervention. This information will also give us further information that will guide classroom instruction.
Regarding intervention, families of learners who will receive intervention beginning this fall will receive letters in the next week. As always, please do feel free to reach out to your child's teacher should you have concerns about their progress.
Friday Whole School Morning Meeting
Ms. Pearsons Class hosted last week's Friday morning Meeting and the theme was fall. Learners in her class wrote about what they most liked about fall and shared their work with the school. The entire assembly was lead by learners!
Morning Meeting
Morning Meeting is one of the most important things that our classroom do each day. It is an opportunity to grow the classroom community and check in with one another each day. This is often a preference time for learners. While each classroom looks a little different based on grade level a morning meeting consists of:
- Greeting
Sharing
Group Activity
Morning Message
News and Announcements
You will see in the picture below that Mrs. Kay's learners are "circled up." This action alone signifies unity and a place that they can be together and solve problems. Lothrop's whole school announcements and the Pledge are done at 8:10, signaling the start of morning meeting.
Family Travel and Attendance
RNESU is focusing on increasing learner attendance this year as we recover from the pandemic and return to best practices for teaching children. One way this is being addressed is closer accountability with attendance. Below is the section regarding attendance and communication with the school from the RNESU Handbook.
We understand that kiddos will be sick from time to time and we also understand that families may only be able to take vacations or participate in educational activities outside of the RNESU calendar. If a family is scheduled to be away and wish for it to be considered "excused," please fill out this request for leave form and submit it to the principal, Debbie in advance of your travel. Please note that only 10 lawful absences are allowed in one school year. (Further information included in the letter.) Please reach out early so that we can accommodate your child's absence.
