Character Counts @ KMS!
CCC! Campaign (CAUGHT using your CHARACTER COUNTS!)
The CCC! campaign is an activity to support the Character Education program at KMS. 8th grade student council volunteers deliver a video recorded character lesson from the Character Counts! model once a week during advisory. Each week students and staff can nominate one student that they have "caught" using good character. The names will go into a drawing to be held every Friday during all three grade's lunches. Winners will receive gift cards to Sonic, Starbucks, Yogurt Story or Braum's. At the end of the year all nominations will go into one drawing for an IPAD.
January is School Board Appreciation Month
January 2017 is School Board Recognition Month—a great time to focus on the crucial role an elected board of trustees plays in our communities and schools. They are extraordinary people who voluntarily tackle the enormous job of governing school districts. Their actions and decisions impact the present and future lives of our children.
Recognizing board members for this commitment and sacrifice takes a combined effort on the part of all those they serve: administrators, school staff, students, and the community. Although showing appreciation should be a year-round process, taking advantage of the designated School Board Recognition Month in January assures that these important people receive some of the thanks they deserve.
Reading with Ramirez - 7th Grade
7th Grade Reading
Welcome back! I am looking forward to a great 2nd semester in 7th grade Reading.
We are starting Literature Circles! Students will be delving deep into a novel, working both independently and collaboratively on our novel study.
If your child is in PreAP Reading, he/she will need a copy of Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card. We'll be annotating directly in the book as a means of interacting directly with the text.
If your child is in Reading, a book will be provided for the Literature Circles. Annotations will be done outside of the novel.
We are also delving into media literacy (implicit and explicit messages, fallacies, and graphic elements), persuasive text, and speech. If you have any school appropriate magazines, we'd love the donation! Students will be examining print ads for fallacies.
Happy New Year!
Bryan's Pantry
ATTENTION PARENTS!
Bryan's Pantry
Is now open in the following locations:
Krum Fire Station
Pilot Point Fire Station
Denton Fire Museum at Fire Station #1
Bryan's Pantry is now open at the above mentioned fire stations. This pantry provides food for you and your children if you are in need. It is located in the foyer or near the front of the fire stations, and most are open 24 hours a day. If you are running short and need food for your family, please take what you need. These food pantries were created in memory of Bryan Collier out of his love for children.
May you be blessed by Bryan's Pantry!
In 6th Grade ELA with Mrs. Roesler
Students will be using their Chromebooks this week to research the arguments for and against wearing school uniforms. Then, they will write persuasive essays after choosing a side, either for or against wearing uniforms. Finally, students will be recording a persuasive commercial with their Chromebooks based on their material presented in their essay! As you can imagine, students are beginning this project with a passionate fever! Will their opinions change after research? Talk to your 6th grade student to stay posted!
