Sign Language for Beginners (Tuesdays Only) NEW
In this class, your child will learn basic vocabulary in American Sign Language, short phrases, how to fingerspell the alphabet, numbers, animals, and a little bit about Deaf culture and how to interact with Deaf people. At the end of this class, your child will be able to introduce themselves and have a basic conversation in ASL. This is a hands-on classroom experience where everyone will get to participate in learning a new language while learning songs, playing games, and a variety of activities to engage learners. Log in info will be provided closer to classtime.
The Wausau School District has a New Inclement Weather Plan!
If school is closed for inclement weather, students are expected to log into SeeSaw at 8:30 and attend their google meets throughout the day. It is no longer a day off of school and therefore, no days will be added to the school calendar in June.
WE ARE BACK IN THE GYM!
I received some terrific news that our elementary PE classes will go back into the gyms! This is so exciting! I cannot wait to get back in there with the students! I would like to take a moment to try to create a picture of how I will be working to keep all students safe in the gym by following the COVID procedures and protocols.
Shoes: Students being back in the gym means that there is an expectation for all students to have safe shoes for PE. Winter boots, dress shoes, crocs, sandals are examples of shoes that are not safe for activity. We want all of our students to be active in PE, so please help ensure that by working with your child to be sure they have shoes at school on PE days!
Transitioning to the gym for PE: Please be sure that your child has a water bottle at school with them each day. Students will bring these to the gym with them. If you need help securing one, please let me know!
COVID Safety in the Gym:
There will be a sanitizing station at each gym entrance and students will sanitize their hands upon entering the space.
There will be a spot for each student's water bottle in the gym.
Students will be assigned a spot in the gym that is more than 6 feet away from any other student.
Students will be required to wear their mask during their time in the gym.
During activity, students will maintain the 6 feet of distance between themselves as much as possible.
During activity, it will be communicated to the students that if they need to slow down or take a break they can do so at any time.
Equipment used will be planned, organized and structured to follow COVID guidelines.
Transitioning back to their classroom:
Students will get their water bottle and line up on spots in the gym that are 6 feet apart.
While leaving the gym area, students will sanitize their hands at the sanitizing station.
Any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to me at rwhalen@wausauschools.org. I am happy to communicate with you!
Thanks!
Ryan Whalen
