2016 Winter Choir Concert
On Thursday, February 18th, the GWA 5th - 12th Chorus and Literary Team Members performed their Winter Choir Concert at the First United Methodist Church in Monroe. The 5th Grade Chorus performed selections from "Seussical the Musical." The 6th - 8th Chorus students performed selections that will be used in their Six Flags Competition later this year. The 6th Grade Honor Chorus students and High School Literary Team also performed selections from their events held at the end of February. The men's solo and quartet songs were broadcast in HD during the performance due to the men being out of town for District Band Festival. Mrs. Donaldson and the chorus students also taught their audience how to sight read music during the performance. Georgia Honor Chorus Representatives
On Friday and Saturday, February 19 and 20, five students represented George Walton Academy at the Georgia Statewide Elementary Honor Chorus in Athens, Georgia. The students selected were Jack Boyer, Ben Ellerbee, Nicole Volk, Allie Marler, and Ella Smith. They practiced many hours after school with Mrs. Dyer and during Honor Chorus weekend in preparation for the concert at the Classic Center. Over 500 top elementary chorus students from the entire state of Georgia participated in the final performance.
Ren Grimsley Wins 1st Place Representing GWA and Walton County at 4-H DPA
Ren Grimsley attended the 4-H District Project Achievement competition on February 13 at Rock Eagle, representing GWA and Walton County. In the category of General Recreation, he competed against 18 other students and won first place for his presentation on juggling. His program included information on the history of juggling, the physical and mental benefits of juggling, and a demonstration of how to learn to juggle.
Spelling Bee Finalists
Congratulations to Claire McNulty and Claire Volk who represented George Walton Academy at the GISA middle school spelling bee at Mount De Sales Academy in Macon on February 11, 2016. Claire McNulty advanced to round 2, which was held at The Atlanta Academy in Roswell on February 23, 2016.

AP Government Field Trip
AP Government classes recently visited the Walton County Courthouse and toured the Walton County Jail. They had the opportunity to observe criminal motions day in Superior Court Judge Samuel Ozburn’s court. Also, Sheriff Joe Chapman met with students to share instructions for their tour of the jail and to discuss the constitutional nature of the sheriff’s office. AP students gained first-hand information about local and state government criminal proceedings and procedures.

3D Printing at GWA
Last week, 6th graders from Mr. Reynolds' social studies classes learned how to 3D print pieces for their Medieval Board Game project.
