Week of 1/13 ~ 1/ 17
Hello, and happy Monday wonderful families!
Last week we started unit 3 in our math class by going over the concept of area. I was very impressed with how quickly many students picked this up, and this week we are going to build on the knowledge we gained. This week, we are learning how to best find the area of composite squares and rectangles. Students will be practicing how to deconstruct these shapes, solve the total area, and reinforce how to use the distributive property to help them find these areas.
Students will be expected to complete green pages out of their math book this week. Most students should be able to get them done in class, and completed green pages will go towards their participation in class.
This week in Homeroom, we are learning about different types of governments, what kind of government we are a part of, and the constitution that makes our country so unique. I expect this unit to continue onto next week.
Notices and Reminders:
- iReady Homework: Students are expected to complete 2 passed lessons AND 45 minutes of iReady each week.
- Frax Homework: Frax missions are cumulative across the school year. While students are expected to complete 3 missions every week, if they fall behind they are still expected to get caught up. Students should have 21 missions completed by 1/17/2025.
- We have a policy stating that students should not bring toys to school unless they have a pass. Please encourage your student to keep toys at home or in their backpack. If they keep anything in their desk, they are running the risk of losing it or having it stolen.
- Please put names or identification on any coats, gloves, or scarves that are sent to school. If lost items can be identified, then they can be returned to your child.
Week of 12/16 ~ 12/20
**Important Notice: Term 2 ends on December 20th. All late or missing work is due by that time (Dec. 20). Anything submitted after that cannot be put into the gradebook. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
Happy Monday wonderful families! I hope everyone is having a fabulous December so far. This week is a very exciting time for the children, but we will still have our regular math homework due by the end of the week. Students are encouraged to make up any missing work they have so that they can go into 3rd Term feeling prepared! In math, we will be wrapping up unit 2 in our math books!
We will have a lot of guests in homeroom this week. On Monday, we will be visited by Thanksgiving Point for an educational activity, and on Thursday we will have Mrs. Sidnie in our classroom teaching us about Gratitude.
This Friday is our Holiday Sing Around and Pajama Day!
Notices and Reminders:
- This week our class has implemented a new routine in which students will not be allowed to use their computers after our daily iReady/Frax time from 10:30 - 11:00. If needed, please allow your child time at home to complete their homework. If you do not have reliable computer access or internet, please contact me so that I can make the necessary accommodation.

Hello wonderful Families!
I apologize for the lack of updates on this page. I will do better in the future. For now, here is what we are doing this week.
**Important Notice: Term 2 ends on December 20th. All late or missing work is due by that time (Dec. 20). Anything submitted after that cannot be put into the gradebook. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
I have been very impressed with students in our math class! We have been exploring how division and multiplication are connected, and I was blown away with how many students are picking up this topic. We will be wrapping up this topic this week so that we can move on next week. We will also be taking the Acadience Math test this week. This is a test that is taken at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. We will be wrapping up this test on Thursday after our lunch period. Any students who miss it will have the opportunity to complete it at a later date.
On Thursday, I will be teaching a Social-emotional lesson about kindness and respect. Most students in our classroom have been very compassionate this year, but there have been some recent issues. Our class will be revisiting this topic as practice in respecting ourselves and those around us.
Notices and Reminders:

11/4 ~ 11/8
Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!
This week in math we will be doing something new. Our homework program, XtraMath, will now be replaced with Frax! Students are no longer required to do XtraMath, however it is still available to students who are looking to get some extra practice towards mastery.
Frax is a Fraction learning program that they will need to access through Clever. Like XtraMath, students are expected to complete 3 "missions" per week. Students are only able to complete one mission per day. I sent out an email with all of the information. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
This week, math students will also start preparing for our Math Interim Test. This is a required test, and this is the first time that students will be introduced to a test like this. We will be doing a practice test all together as a class so that students can become familiar with the testing program and know what tools they have to help them with these tests.
In homeroom class we will be doing a project about how environments can impact an organism's ability to survive there.
10/14 ~ 10/18
Welcome to Term 2!
This week is a short week! Fall break is from Thursday to Monday, and students will return Tuesday, October 22.
This week in math we will be learning about multiplying with sevens and eights! These two multiplication tables can be tricky, so we will be learning strategies that use previous knowledge to help support student learning.
**Starting Term 2, Math students will be receiving participation grades for each day in class. Participation is shown through the submission of green workbook pages. Students are welcome to complete unfinished pages at home and turn them in for credit. Students are welcome to make-up any missing pages at any point of the term.
In homeroom, we are happy to be having Tracy Aviary come teach a lesson to our students! We will be completing lessons on the water cycle, and living vs. nonliving things to help prepare for the aviary's visit.
Week of 10/7 ~ 10/11
I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend! As we near the end of first term, I would like to remind everyone that I am happy to accept late work in our math and homeroom classes! This includes iReady, XtraMath, and classwork that is marked as "Missing" Aspire. Grades for first term need to be submitted by Friday, October 11th, so please try to have missing or resubmitted work turned in by Wednesday October 9th. I am happy to provide students with copies of missing work to complete at home.
This week in math, we will be learning about the multiplication of 3, 4, and 6. We will be exploring different strategies that can be used to perform this, and using singing and flashcards to develop fluency with these operations. Students will be given time in class to complete green "homework" pages from their book. I am trying to encourage students to do this page because many students need extra practice. Starting second term, these green pages will be graded as practice in math. Any pages not complete and turned in during class will be homework for students.
In homeroom, we have begun a science unit on life cycles. This week, students will be observing how different animals have different milestones and developmental stages. All activities will be done together in class. Activities done together will be turned in for a grade.
Homework:
- Students in my math class are expected to do 3 days of XtraMath per week as homework. If a student did not complete this in class, please allow them 10 minutes at home to do this. If this cannot be done at home, please reach out to me so that I can help support your student at school.
- Students are required to complete two lessons and 45 minutes of iReady per week. Most students are able to do this in class, however if this is not done then they are expected to do this at home. As of last week, students should have at least 14 lessons completed.
- Starting second term, October 14th, students will receive a grade for green pages. They will be given time during our lesson to complete this. If it is not turned in, then they will need to complete this work at home or during Friday Study Hall.
If you are concerned for your student's grade, it is absolutely allowed to make up missing work or lessons. If your student is missing days or lessons of XtraMath or iReady, I encourage them to make them up. If they do extra days or lessons, it will count towards their grade! The deadline for turned in work is October 9th.

Week of 9/16 ~ 9/20
Hello, hello!
This week in math we are wrapping up unit 1! I have been very impressed with how quickly many students have picked up on math so far. On Monday and Tuesday, we will be going over some of the more difficult strategies for adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers before moving on to multiplication on Wednesday. Students will begin learning what it means to multiply, and we will start practicing the multiplication tables.
In homeroom, we will continue our lessons on Community. We will be finishing our lesson from next week, and then move on to what influences the location of a community.
Let's have an amazing week!
Week of 9/9 ~ 9/13
Hello, and welcome to a brand new week!
This week in math we are coving the subtraction of three digit numbers. There will be a deeper dive on regrouping in subtraction and what that means when translated to the algorithm. Students will also practice recognizing how vocabulary indicates what operation needs to be performed. Later this week, we will be covering how the math we have reviewed up until this point can be applied to real world situations and scenarios.
In homeroom we are getting ready to begin a unit on communities. Students will explore what kinds of communities they are a part of (country, state, city, school) as well as what kinds of characteristics we have in our local community.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Week of 9/3 ~ 9/6
Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a fantastic Labor Day weekend!
Last week, we learned about rounding which many students took to like fish to water! I am very impressed with how smart this group of students are. This week in math we will be moving on to adding three-digit numbers. I'm sure most students will be able to pick this up quickly, so we will be taking a deeper dive into the importance of place value, as well as the different strategies and methods that can be used to solve three-digit numbers.
In homeroom we have been working on developing and participating in an experiment about force, motion, and friction. We will be wrapping up our Force and Motion experiment and discussing why our results showed what they did.
This week, I will also be teaching a social-emotional lesson about kindness. My hope is to promote kindness, sharing, and teamwork in our classroom. We will have a discussion and short activity talking about how even small actions can leave a big impact.
Week of 8/26 - 8/30
This week in Math we will be learning about rounding! Many students may be familiar with this concept of math, so we will be working to refine understanding and recognize where rounding can be used in the real world!
Students are now prepared for weekly iReady lessons. Students will have time every day after a math warmup to complete their required iReady practice. **I would like to remind parents and students of the required XtraMath lessons that are homework. **Students are expected to complete three XtraMath lessons every week to participate in Fun Friday.
In Homeroom we are covering the science behind Force and Motion. The class has been working together to organize an experiment to answer the question, "What surface makes a toy car go fastest?"
Have a wonderful week!
First Week of School ~ 8/12 - 8/16
This week we will be working on learning positive habits and classroom procedures. I'm excited to see so many returning faces, as well as meet some new ones. Let's work together to kick off the school year great!
**Please make sure that you have signed and returned the Tech Use Agreement. Students are unable to do any work on school computers until this is returned.**
Homeroom students will have the opportunity to put together a Star Student Poster! I'd love to showcase your student in the year. I highly encourage you work together with your child and make it a bonding activity. Students can turn it in at any time!
Can't wait to see you all there!
